Jaane
Jaan
Review:
After
ruling
the
big
screens
for
more
than
two
decades,
Kareena
Kapoor
Khan
has
finally
made
her
OTT
debut
with
the
film
Jaane
Jaan.
The
movie
has
started
streaming
on
Netflix
today
and
it
is
directed
by
Sujoy
Ghosh.
Jaane
Jaan
is
an
adaptation
of
the
book,
The
Devotion
of
Suspect
X.
Well,
there
were
reports
that
Drishyam
(a
Malayalam
film
later
remade
in
other
languages)
was
an
unofficial
adaptation
of
The
Devotion
of
Suspect
X.
So,
are
Jaane
Jaan
and
Drishyam
similar?
Find
out
in
our
review
below...
Jaane
Jaan
is
about
Maya
D'Souza
(Kareena
Kapoor
Khan)
who
along
with
her
daughter
stays
in
Kalimpong
and
runs
a
restaurant.
One
day,
after
many
years,
her
husband
lands
in
Kalimpong
and
gets
murdered.
Maya
is
the
main
suspect
in
the
murder,
Karan
(Vijay
Varma),
a
cop
is
investigating
the
murder,
and
then
there's
Naren
(Jaideep
Ahlawat),
Maya's
neighbour
who
has
a
soft
corner
for
her.
How
these
three
people
get
involved
in
this
murder
mystery
forms
the
rest
of
the
story...
The
basic
concept
of
Jaane
Jaan
is
similar
(not
exactly
the
same)
to
Drishyam,
and
during
the
first
half,
some
scenes
will
remind
you
of
the
Mohanlal
/
Ajay
Devgn
starrer.
In
some
scenes,
you
will
feel
like
you
are
watching
Drishyam
with
just
another
cast.
But,
Sujoy
saves
the
best
for
the
second
half.
The
filmmaker
gets
his
touch
in
the
second
half
and
gives
us
what
we
expect
from
a
Sujoy
Ghosh
thriller.
Many
scenes
will
keep
you
hooked,
especially
the
ones
featuring
Jaideep.
Also,
like
almost
all
the
Sujoy
Ghosh
films,
the
climax
here
is
the
highlight
and
surely
surprises
us.
Avik
Mukhopadhyay
has
beautifully
captured
Kalimpong
and
his
lens
does
wonders
in
this
film
as
it
gives
the
perfect
thriller
feel
to
it.
However,
Urvashi
Saxena's
editing
could
have
been
tighter.
When
it
comes
to
performances,
Jaideep
Ahlawat
shines
as
Naren
(teacher).
He
is
simply
excellent
in
the
movie
and
you
will
become
his
fan
after
watching
Jaane
Jaan.
Vijay
Varma
is
also
fantastic
in
his
part
and
once
again
proves
that
he
is
one
of
the
most
talented
actors
we
have
in
the
industry.
Kareena
Kapoor
Khan
has
surely
tried
to
come
out
of
her
comfort
zone
with
Jaane
Jaan
and
she
has
performed
well.
But,
the
amazing
performances
of
Jaideep
and
Vijay
take
the
limelight
away
from
Kareena.
Naisha
Khanna
as
Tara
(Maya's
daughter)
is
decent
in
her
role.
Overall,
Jaane
Jaan
is
not
the
best
work
of
Sujoy
Ghosh
and
Kareena,
but
if
you
have
a
Netflix
subscription
you
can
surely
watch
it
once
as
it's
a
perfect
film
where
'Drishyam
meets
Kahaani'.
Also,
Jaideep's
exceptional
performance
deserves
a
watch!
