Kaala Paani Review: Mona Singh Starrer Has Its Moments, But It's Not A Perfect Thriller That Keeps You Hooked

Kaala Paani Review: 2020 and 2021 were clearly the worst years for everyone. The COVID-19 pandemic changed our lives and it is a horrific time that no one wants to remember. So, whenever a film or a series revolving around COVID-19 or any pandemic or epidemic is made, it surely creates a scary image in our minds when we watch it. Now, we have Kaala Paani, a series about an epidemic on an island. So, is this Mona Singh starrer worth a binge-watch? Find out in our review below...

Kaala Paani is set in 2027 in Andaman & Nicobar island. A few people are diagnosed with a rare disease, and Dr. Singh (Mona Singh) is worried about the situation and wants to know the reason behind this disease. While she comes to know the reason behind the spread of the disease, things don't go as planned, and the disease starts spreading rapidly. The government there announces a lockdown, so from locals to tourists, everyone gets stuck on the island. Who will survive and how will people survive, forms the rest of the story...

The basic concept of Kalaa Paani is interesting. The spread of the disease, the fear of how people will survive, and the emotional part of losing a loved one, all these things have been showcased well. But, the series is quite long and the characters' back stories have been given a lot of importance. Maybe sticking to the survival story during an epidemic would have made it more crisp and interesting.

There are some scenes that will give you chills and thrills. Watching the characters wearing the mask will make you feel a bit uncomfortable as it will remind you of COVID-19 times. But as the runtime of the episodes are quite long, it looks stretched and loses its grip.

Also, one thing that disappoints a lot is (Spoiler Alert) that Mona Singh doesn't have a big role. In fact, she is just there for one episode. Even in that one episode, the actress leaves such a strong mark that you just keep on waiting to watch her more. Kaala Paani is a multi-starrer, and apart from Mona, it is Ashutosh Gowariker, Amey Wagh, Aradhya Ajana, Sukant Goel, Vikas Kumar, and Radhika Mehrotra who impress us with their performance. Especially, Sukand and Vikas, they are amazing.

Overall, Kaala Paani is not one of the best series we have seen in recent times. It has some good moments, but on the whole, just turns out to be an average watch.
