Mission
Raniganj
Review:
Akshay
Kumar
and
Tinu
Suresh
Desai
teamed
up
for
the
2016
release
Rustom.
The
movie
was
a
hit
at
the
box
office
and
Akshay
also
won
a
National
Award
for
his
performance
in
the
movie.
Now,
after
seven
years,
the
filmmaker
and
the
actor
have
teamed
up
for
Mission
Raniganj
The
Great
Bharat
Rescue.
So,
is
this
film
as
good
as
Rustom?
Well,
it
is
actually
better
than
that
one.

Mission
Raniganj
is
based
on
the
Raniganj
Coalfields
collapse
of
1989.
Many
miners
get
stuck
in
a
coal
mine
after
water
gets
filled
in
it,
and
while
the
management
of
the
coal
mine
feels
that
maybe
all
of
them
have
died,
Jaswant
Singh
Gill
(Akshay
Kumar)
decides
to
do
a
rescue
mission
and
saves
65
miners
who
were
stuck.
If
you
go
on
Google,
you
will
get
many
articles
written
about
the
incident.
But,
to
convert
this
into
a
film
is
surely
not
an
easy
task.
However,
writer
Vipul
K
Rawal
and
director
Tinu
Suresh
Desai
have
done
a
fantastic
job
together.
The
movie
starts
on
a
strictly
average
note.
The
build
is
a
bit
slow
and
you
will
feel
that
this
one
will
just
turn
out
to
be
an
average
film
with
nothing
great
in
it.
But,
10-15
minutes
before
the
interval,
it
picks
up
amazingly
and
the
interval
point
is
just
wow.
After
the
interval,
the
movie
gets
much
better
and
there
are
moments
that
will
give
you
goosebumps
and
make
you
emotional.
In
the
second
half,
each
and
every
scene
will
keep
you
hooked
to
the
screens
and
even
though
you
know
what's
going
to
happen,
Desai's
narration
will
keep
you
on
the
edge
of
your
seat.
You
will
actually
be
like
'Oh
god,
now
what
will
happen?'
While
the
screenplay
and
the
direction
are
engaging,
the
background
score
by
Sandeep
Shirodkar
also
does
wonders
for
the
movie.
The
only
thing
that
doesn't
work
here
is
the
VFX.
The
visual
effects
in
the
film
are
not
that
great
and
at
times
look
fake.
When
we
talk
about
performances,
Akshay
Kumar
is
back
with
a
bang.
His
last
release
OMG
2
was
a
hit,
but
he
just
had
a
cameo.
But,
this
movie
marks
his
proper
comeback
with
a
bang
as
a
lead.
He
nails
it
as
Jaswant
Singh
Gill
and
it
is
a
treat
for
Akshay's
fans.
The
movie
has
many
supporting
actors
like
Ravi
Kishan,
Kumud
Mishra,
Rajesh
Sharma,
Dibyendu
Bhattacharya,
and
Pawan
Malhotra,
and
all
of
them
have
done
a
very
good
job
in
their
respective
roles.
Especially
Ravi
Kishan,
he
is
simply
excellent.
The
film
also
stars
Parineeti
Chopra
and
she
doesn't
have
much
to
do.
Well,
a
special
mention
to
the
dog
who
plays
a
very
pivotal
role
in
the
movie.
Overall,
Mission
Raniganj
is
a
film
filled
with
goosebumps
moments
and
if
you
are
an
Akshay
Kumar
fan
it's
a
must-watch.
The
actor
has
given
one
of
his
best
performances
in
recent
times.
