Review:
There's
no
doubt
that
Vicky
Kaushal
is
one
of
the
most
talented
actors
we
have
in
the
industry.
But
now,
it
is
clear
that
whenever
he
wears
Indian
Army
uniform
he
delivers
his
best.
The
actor
portrayed
the
role
of
an
Army
officer
in
Uri:
The
Surgical
Strike
and
won
a
National
Award
for
his
brilliant
performance
in
it.
Now,
in
Sam
Bahadur,
he
has
once
again
donned
the
Indian
Army
uniform
and
has
delivered
his
career's
best
performance.
But,
apart
from
Vicky's
wonderful
act,
is
there
anything
else
that
impresses
us
in
the
movie?
Find
out
in
our
review
below...
Sam
Bahadur
tells
the
story
of
Sam
Manekshaw
(Vicky
Kaushal).
He
was
a
part
of
British
Army
before
the
Independence
and
when
the
partition
happened,
he
decided
to
stay
in
India
and
be
a
part
of
the
Indian
Army.
How
he
fought
battles
and
inspired
his
soldiers,
takes
the
story
forward...
The
movie
is
written
by
Bhavani
Iyer,
Shantanu
Shrivastava,
and
Meghna
Gulzar,
and
Meghna
has
also
directed
it.
It
is
a
clear
case
of
a
very
dull
first
half,
but
a
fantastic
second
half.
In
the
first
half,
apart
from
a
war
sequence,
there's
nothing
much
that
will
keep
you
engaged.
The
film
becomes
much
better
in
the
second
half
and
the
scenes
between
Sam
and
Indira
Gandhi
(Fatima
Sana
Shaikh)
are
undoubtedly
the
highlight
of
the
film.
The
second
half
of
the
film
is
so
good
that
you
will
feel
that
you
are
watching
a
totally
different
movie.
There
are
some
moments
post-interval
that
will
give
you
goosebumps.
Also,
one
department
that
surely
deserves
a
mention
is
the
make-up
and
prosthetics
department.
They
have
done
wonders
for
the
film
as
all
the
actors
are
looking
very
similar
to
the
real-life
characters
that
they
playing
on
screen.
Performance
wise,
Vicky
Kaushal
steals
the
show.
From
the
first
scene
to
the
last
scene,
you
won't
watch
Vicky
Kaushal
on
the
big
screen,
it
is
Sam
Manekshaw.
The
actor
has
surely
gone
deep
into
the
skin
of
the
character
and
has
given
an
award-winning
performance.
After
Vicky,
it
is
Fatima
Sana
Shaikh
who
impresses
us
a
lot
with
her
act
as
Former
Prime
Minister
Indira
Gandhi.
She
has
a
very
meaty
role
to
play
and
has
given
a
wonderful
performance.
The
voice
modulation
that
she
has
done
is
commendable.
Sanya
Malhotra
doesn't
have
a
meaty
role
in
the
film,
but
she
is
good
as
Sam's
wife
in
the
movie.
Mohammed
Zeeshan
Ayyub
as
Yahya
Khan
is
just
fantastic,
and
in
the
second
half,
the
make-up
for
him
is
so
good
that
you
won't
be
able
to
recognise
him.
Other
actors
like
Neeraj
Kabi
and
Govinda
Namdeo
also
leave
a
mark
with
their
small
roles.
Talking
about
music,
Badhte
Chalo
is
the
track
that
grabs
our
attention,
and
the
background
score
is
also
quite
good.
Overall,
Sam
Bahadur
is
a
film
that
required
a
tighter
first
half,
but
the
second
half,
and
Vicky
and
Fatima's
amazing
performances
make
this
movie
watchable.
We
would
have
given
this
film
3
stars,
but
we
are
giving
an
extra
half
star
just
for
Vicky.
