Review:
Vijay
Krishna
Acharya
has
earlier
made
movies
like
Tashan,
Dhoom
3,
and
Thugs
Of
Hindostan.
Apart
from
Dhoom
3,
none
of
them
did
well
at
the
box
office
and
all
three
of
them
even
received
mixed
reviews.
Now,
the
filmmaker
is
here
with
his
fourth
directorial
titled
The
Great
Indian
Family
which
stars
Vicky
Kaushal
in
the
lead
role.
So,
has
Acharya
finally
made
a
movie
that
will
impress
everyone?

out

our
review
below...
The
Great
Indian
Family
is
about
Bhajan
Kumar
(Vicky
Kushal)
who
belongs
to
a
family
of
Pandits
and
once
he
grows
up,
he
becomes
a
famous
Bhajan
singer
of
Balrampur.
But,
one
day,
someone
comes
and
gives
the
family
a
letter
revealing
that
the
son
who
was
born
on
the
particular
date
was
of
a
Muslim
family.
This
twist
in
Bhajan
Kumar's
life
changes
everything
for
him,
and
how
he
and
his
family
face
this
situation
forms
the
rest
of
the
story.
The
movie
is
written
and
directed
by
Vijay
Krishna
Acharya,
and
well,
the
basic
concept
here
is
a
bit
similar
to
the
film
Dharam
Sankat
Mein
which
starred
Paresh
Rawal
in
the
lead
role.
Even
in
that
movie
after
many
years,
Paresh's
character,
who
is
a
Hindu,
comes
to
know
that
he
was
born
Muslim.
But,
of
course,
it's
not
exactly
the
same
film,
and
Acharya
has
tried
to
present
it
in
a
YRF
film
manner.
But,
the
scattered
screenplay
and
strictly
average
narration
don't
do
justice
to
the
concept.
The
movie
starts
off
very
well
and
the
first
15-20
minutes
keep
us
hooked,
but
later
the
screenplay
looks
scattered
and
even
the
interval
point
isn't
as
hard-hitting
as
it
should
be.
The
film
becomes
better
in
the
second
half,
and
there
are
some
dramatic
and
funny
scenes
that
keep
you
hooked
to
the
screen.
But,
once
again,
the
climax
monologue
just
doesn't
work
well.
It's
not
effective.
Also,
YRF
movies
always
have
great
songs,
but
the
music
of
The
Great
Indian
Family
is
also
very
average.
Pritam
has
been
giving
some
amazing
songs,
but
the
tracks
of
this
film
are
not
up
to
the
mark.
Talking
about
performances,
Vicky
Kaushal
has
done
a
wonderful
job
proving
his
mettle
as
an
actor
once
again.
But,
veteran
actors
Kumud
Mishra
and
Manoj
Pahwa
steal
the
show
here,
especially
the
former,
he
is
simply
amazing
in
the
movie.
Manushi
Chhillar
doesn't
have
much
to
do,
she
is
just
there
for
2
songs
and
4
scenes.
Other
supporting
actors
like
Yashpal
Sharma,
Sadiya
Siddiqui,
Alka
Amin,
and
Srishti
Dixit
are
good
in
their
respective
roles.
Dixit
gets
a
few
scenes
in
which
she
shines
very
well.
Overall,
The
Great
Indian
Family
is
not
a
great
watch;
the
performances
save
this
average
film.
