Baby John Review: Atlee became a household name across the country after the super success of Shah Rukh Khan starrer Jawan. But, not many people know that he is one of the best directors in the Tamil film industry and he has helmed many super hit movies like Theri, Mersal, and Bigil (All starring Thalapathy Vijay). Now, his movie Theri has been remade in Hindi as Baby John, and stars Varun Dhawan, Keerthy Suresh, and Wamiqa Gabbi in the lead roles, and Kalees has directed the film. So, is the movie worth your time and money? Find out in our review below...

John D'Silva (Varun Dhawan) is staying with his daughter, Khushi (Zara Zyanna), in Kerala, and he owns a bakery. They are living a good life, until Tara (Wamiqa Gabbi), Khushi's teacher, enters their life. One incident makes John reach a police station along with Tara and Khushi, and then a thing about John's past is revealed. Nana (Jackie Shroff) is now behind John and Khushi. So, what's John's past? Why is Nana behind them? To know the answer of these things, you need to watch the movie...

Firstly, we have watched Theri, so we know the story and the screenplay. Of course, the basic plotline of the movie is same, but even the screenplay here is very similar. We had watched Theri's Hindi dubbed version and the makers have not just copy-pasted the screenplay, but even the dialogues of the Hindi dubbed version and Baby John are similar.

We are not saying that the makers have not changed things. They have changed a few things, especially, the whole antagonist part has been changed and narrated in a totally different way. Even the teacher's character (Tara) and the Head Constable Ram Sevak's character (Played by Rajpal Yadav) have been given a very good twist which was not there in Theri. If we compare Theri and Baby John, we can say that the makers have 60% of the film same and 40% has been changed.

However, what works majorly in the favour Baby John is the emotional quotient. While of course the father-daughter angle is cute, there are some other emotional scenes especially during the pre-interval portion that surely grab our attention. So, yes, Kalees gets full marks for getting the emotional quotient right here which was missing a bit in Theri.

Baby John Review - Actors' Performances

Varun Dhawan steals our hearts as Baby John. His cute father-daughter chemistry with Zara will surely get a smile on your face. Even in the emotional scenes Varun is quite good. This movie marks Keerthy Suresh's Bollywood debut, and though the actress looks very pretty in the film, she surely deserved a better Hindi debut.

Wamiqa Gabbi is quite good in her role as Tara, and she also gets to do some action which she has done effortlessly. Jackie Shroff as the antagonist has done his role very well. We all know that Rajpal Yadav has an amazing comic timing and he is fantastic in the film. But, watch out for a big twist in the climax. Sheeba Chaddha as Satya's mother is good in her role and surely makes us laugh out loud.

Zara Zyanna, the child artist is super cute, and she has also performed very well. She will surely impress you with her performance.

Also, there's Bhai ka cameo and there will surely be whistles in the theatre when Salman Khan will come on the big screens.

Baby John Review - Music

The songs in the movie are impressive and even the background score is quite good. Nain Matakka as we all know has already become a chartbuster, and it is fun to watch it on the big screens.

Baby John Review - Final Verdict

Overall, Baby John is very similar to Theri, and if you have watched the original film, then this one doesn't have much new to offer apart from a better emotional angle. However, if you haven't watched the original movie, this might be a good one time watch for you this weekend.
