Chandu Champion Review: Kartik Delivers A Strong Act; This Film Gives A Deserving Tribute To Murlikant Petkar

Chandu Champion Review: From the day, Kabir Khan's directorial Chandu Champion was announced, audience was very excited about it as the film is a biopic on India's first Paralympics gold medalist Murlikant Petkar. Also, fans of Kartik Aaryan were super excited to watch him on the big screens in a totally different role. So, was the wait worth? Is Chandu Champion worth your time and money? Find out in our review below...
Chandu Champion is about Murli (Kartik Aaryan) who after seeing the craze for Khashaba Dadasaheb Jadhav (Independent India's first Olympics medal winner), decides that he also wants to become a champion and do wrestling. But, destiny has something else written for him, and he join Army. Through Army he gets a chance to participate in boxing, but during a war, he gets injured and his half body gets paralysis. However, he once again dreams to win a Gold medal for India and participates in Paralympics. The movie showcases his whole journey from childhood to winning a Padma Shri.
When it comes to movies like Chandu Champion, we know that what's going to happen in the end, and what's the story. So, everything depends on the screenplay and the narration. With Kabir Khan's name attached to the film, everyone surely had high expectations from the movie, and the filmmaker succeeds in delivering what we expected from him.
The movie starts on a very interesting note. The childhood of Murlikant Petkar has been shown very well. But, the movie dips a bit in between, only to pick up post-interval. In the second half, Chandu Champion goes to a totally different level. The screenplay and the narration keeps us hooked to the screens till the climax. The climax gives us a happy feeling!
The only problem with Chandu Champion is that there's no strong female character here. Kabir Khan's movies always have a strong female character, but here that is missing. Mulikant Petkar is married in real-life, so it would have been great if the angle of his married life was shown in the film. It would have given more emotional depth.
Chandu Champion Actors' Performances
Kartik Aaryan as Murlikant Petkar has delivered a strong act. You can clearly see that the actor has put in a lot of effort for the role, and he is very good in some emotional scenes in the second half proving that not just comedy, but he can do such emotional roles as well. The movie is surely a treat for his fans.
While of course the movie mainly revolves around Kartik's character, the two actors who also steal the show are Vijay Raaz and Shreyas Talpade. Raaz plays a proper supporting role and has given a fantastic performance as usual, and Talpade in his extended cameo leaves a very strong mark especially with his perfect Marathi accent and mannerism required for the role. Bhuvan Arora is very good in his part, and Aniruddh Dave too leaves a mark. Rajpal Yadav also has an extended cameo and he has done a fab job.
If we talk about the female characters in the film; Bhagyashri Borse doesn't have much to do, Hemangi Kavi is decent, and Sonali Kulkarni in her cameo is fine. Clearly, a strong female character was missing here.
A special mention to Ayan Khan, the child actor who plays the role of the young Murlikant. He is excellent.
Chandu Champion Music
The songs in the film are good. Satyanaas is already a chartbuster, and even it entertains in the film.
Chandu Champion Review Final Verdict
Chandu Champion is not a Bajrangi Bhaijaan, but it is also not a Tubelight. Kabir Khan delivers a good film which gives a deserving tribute to Murlikant Petkar. So, you can surely watch it in a theatre near you.
