Munjya Review: Stree, Roohi, and Bhediya, we have watched these movies and these characters till now in Dinesh Vijan's horror-comedy universe. Now, the fourth film in the universe is Munjya. The movie stars Abhay Verma and Sharvari in the lead roles along with Mona Singh in a supporting role. So, is this fourth film of the horror-comedy universe worth your time and money? Find out in our review below...

Bitto (Abhay Verma) stays in Pune with his mother, Pammi (Mona Singh) and Aaji (Suhasini Joshi). He is always haunted by a strange voice. For his cousin's engagement, Bitto and his family visit their village in Konkan. There's a deserted island named Chetuk Wadi near the beach in the village and one day Bitto reaches there due to a situation. Now, on a tree there's a Munjya (ghost of a kid who died in his childhood) who wants to marry a girl named Munni. Bitto gets trapped by Munjya and the latter comes with him to Pune. Only Bitto can see Munjya, and the hunt for Munni starts. Will Bitto and Munjya find Munni, and what happens next forms the rest of the story...

Munjya is written by Yogesh Chandekar and Niren Bhatt, and directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The first half of the film is very interesting and keeps us hooked to the screens. Post-interval, the movie dips a bit with the romantic angle taking centre stage. But, once again it picks up during the pre-climax and climax portions.

The movie is a horror-comedy, but here horror is more and comedy is less. There are a few portions in the first half that will make you laugh out loud. But, as we said there are just a few scenes like that. In fact, the film has a lot of jump scares that will keep you on the edge of the seat.

The problem with the horror-comedy universe is that their first film was Stree which was a perfect entertaining film, and had the perfect balance of horror and comedy. After Stree, Roohi, Bhediya and now Munjya, all of them have failed to reach the benchmark set by the Shraddha Kapoor starrer. None of them were bad films, but Stree was just amazing.

In one department, that Munjya gets full marks is VFX. The CGI character Munjya looks really scary and even he has been made to act quite well.

Munjya Actors' Performances

Munjya belongs to Abhay Verma. He had shown his acting chops in last year's release Safed, and now, in Munjya, he gets to play a totally different character. Abhay has the perfect amount of innocence and cuteness that was required for the character, and he has performed well. He can surely be the new National Crush for the girls. Sharvari doesn't have much to do in the first half, but the actress gets to showcase her talent in the pre-climax and climax portions and she has done a good job.

Mona Singh is wasted. Apart from a few scenes for some laughter, she doesn't have much to do. We hope she had a better role in the movie. Sathyaraj is good in his role and veteran Marathi actress Suhasini Joshi is nice in her extended cameo.

Well, a special mention to Taran Singh, as with his acting he surely makes us laugh out loud. Also, he has been given some of the best scenes and dialogues in the first half of the movie.

Munjya Music

The songs in the movie are decent, and Taras is already a blockbuster. But, what works here is the background score. For such movies, background score is very important and it does create an intense atmosphere in the theatre.

Munjya Review Final Verdict

Overall, Munjya has some really good horror, edge of the seat moments, but it falls short of comedy. It might not be a perfect horror-comedy like Stree, however, it is an enjoyable, entertaining film that you can watch it once in a theatre near you.

P.S. Don't leave the theatres quickly, there's a surprise... Sshhh!
