Ulajh Review: When a few weeks ago, the trailer of Janhvi Kapoor and Gulshan Devaiah starrer Ulajh was released, it had grabbed our attention as it did keep us hooked to the screens. Everyone expected that finally after a long time Bollywood has come up with a good political thriller. But, does the film live up to the expectations it created after the trailer release? Find out in our review below...

The movie revolves around Suhana (Janhvi Kapoor) who comes from a family of diplomats. In fact, her grandfather's name is there in the Civics textbook. She gets a job as IFS officer in London, and of course, everyone blames her that she has got the position because of nepotism. In the process of proving herself, she gets tangled with ISI and now, what will Suhana do to save her country's image forms the rest of the story...

The basic concept of Ulajh is very interesting and it starts on a very promising note. But after a few minutes, the slow pace and the not-so-gripping screenplay and narration makes the first half a yawnfest. Finally, something happens during the interval block that wakes you up and you start hoping that the second half will be interesting.

The second half of the film is better, but the problem is that the twist and turns are predictable. In a thriller, you expect that the twists and turns will leave you shocked but that doesn't happen because you will start guessing things and it might turn out to be true. Even if the audience guesses what is going to come next, the direction should have been something that keeps us hooked. While here in the second half some scenes are interesting, some fall flat.

Ulajh Actors' Performances

Ulajh belongs to Janhvi Kapoor and she has done justice to the character. It is clearly her career's best performance and she proves her mettle as an actor. In some scenes, you will get to see a jhalak of Sridevi in her and that's surely a big thing. After Janhvi, it is Gulshan Devaiah who impresses us with his performance. His character has multiple shades and he has portrayed them wonderful. In fact, he has done his negative role so well that you will start hating him.

Roshan Mathew doesn't have much to do in the first half, but in the second half he shines and leaves a mark. It is very disheartening to see actors like Rajesh Tailang and Meiyang Chang being totally wasted in this film. Adil Hussain is good in his role, and Sakshi Tanwar proves that even with just one scene in the film, she can leave such a strong mark that you are left wanting for more.

Ulajh Music

The songs in the movie are good, and the background score does its job well. Also, Ilahi Mere surely elevates the climax.

Ulajh Review Final Verdict

Overall, Ulajh had the potential to be one of the best political thrillers of Bollywood because the basic concept is very interesting. However, the storyline has not been converted into a good film. If you are a Janhvi Kapoor fan then watch it, others can give it a miss.

P.S. We would have given the film 2 stars, but an extra half star is just for Janhvi's fantastic performance.
