Adding to this list is 120 Bahadur, Farhan Akhtar’s latest war drama based on the 1962 Chinese attack. The film brings to life the heroic battle of Rezang La, offering a moving tribute to the soldiers who fought against impossible odds.

The story opens with the date “18 November 1962” flashing on screen. A soldier is seen running down the snowy mountains, exhausted and terrified. Moments later, he collapses and is rushed to a military hospital. This tense beginning sets the tone before the film travels back in time to narrate the events leading to the battle.

The heart of the story lies in Chushul, where Commander Shaitan Singh Bhati and his 120 soldiers from the 13th Kumaon Regiment are stationed. Even as war seems inevitable, the soldiers try to enjoy small moments of joy and humour. Major Shaitan Singh, however, stays alert, studying Chinese movements from higher posts. China’s strategic goal was to capture the Chushul airbase and claim the entire Ladakh and Jammu–Kashmir region. But the courage and determination of these 120 soldiers turned the tide, breaking China’s plan in a way that still inspires generations.

Writer Rajiv G. Menon keeps the storytelling simple and grounded. Instead of creating a larger-than-life version of the Rezang La battle, he chooses authenticity. There are no exaggerated dialogues or over-the-top family scenes. This honest approach helps the audience connect with the real emotions behind the sacrifices.

120 Bahadur is more than a war film-it is a tribute to the 120 soldiers who gave their lives defending the nation. For three months, their bravery went unrecognised by their brigade commander. Only when the snow melted and their bodies were found did the world understand what had happened on the night of 17 November 1962. The film recreates the atmosphere of those four crucial days, from 15 to 18 November, allowing viewers to feel the tension, fear, and courage that defined the battle.

Director Rajnish Reji Ghai deserves credit for his controlled and steady direction. The film has been beautifully shot in the valleys of Ladakh, with cinematographer Tetsua Nagata capturing the landscapes in an impressive manner. The fixed-frame confrontations between Major Shaitan Singh and the Chinese commander stand out for their visual strength. Technically, the film scores high, and Satish Raghunathan's background music adds depth without becoming too loud or dramatic.

Farhan Akhtar plays Major Shaitan Singh with sincerity, avoiding unnecessary drama in his performance. Raashi Khanna, who plays his wife, shines despite limited screen time and manages to leave an emotional mark.

The film also introduces several new actors, including Sparsh Valia, Devendra Ahirwar, Digvijay Pratap, Brijesh Karnawal, and Sahib Verma. All of them deliver strong performances, especially in emotional and war-heavy sequences. Whether it’s the soulful track “Nikle Hain Hum Ghar Se” or the intense climax battle, the supporting cast holds the audience’s attention and, in some scenes, even outshines Farhan.
