Azaad Review: Ajay Devgn's Horse With Those JHAKAAS Expressions Is The REAL Hero Of Abhishek Kapoor's Film

Azaad review: Uyiii Amma, someone please give extra love to the horse, who is the show stealer of Abhishek Kapoor's film. Drama, romance, rebellion, tashan- Azaad had all the ingredients for a successful flick. Did it turn out to be a masala entertainer or a phuski bomb? Check out a spoiler-free review of Azaad right here!
AJAY DEVGN'S PRESENCE FAILS TO LIFT AZAAD
Azaad, which is set in pre-independent India, focused on the bond between a stable boy and a horse. He is determined to ride a horse, that is owned by a farmer-turned-dacoit. How he wins the trust of the horse and uses the animal to win a competition to fend off the Britishers and Jamindaars forms the crux of the story.
When you have Ajay Devgn and Abhishek Kapoor on board for a project, you expect a kickass film, isn't it? The two dynamic stars are masters in their respective fields but somehow their latest collaboration didn't click.
It seems Abhishek Kapoor, the mastermind behind Kedarnath & Rock On, failed to understand the assignment. The story of an upper-class girl falling in love with a lower-class boy seems outdated and makes you remember the films from the 80s and 90s. The slow pacing kills Azaad and Ajay Devgn couldn't carry the film on his shoulders with such a weak script.
AZAAD ACTING REVIEW: MOHIT MALIK IS SUAVE AS VILLAIN, AAMAN DEVGAN LOOKS PROMISING
The film marked the Bollywood debut of two star kids- Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani. The two actors looked decent in their part, but somehow their chemistry fell flat in the film. As individual characters, they stood out; however, Rasha and Aaman's chemistry looked better in the promotions than in the film.
Aaman Devgan seemed to be the right fit for the character as he portrayed his role with honesty. He seems to be the right fit for the role of Govid, who is young stable boy.
Rasha, who already made waves with her dance moves, didn't get much to explore in the film. She was decent in whatever role Abhishek Kapoor offered her. Rasha's dance number is already a hit among the audience and she has the potential to be a big star if she polishes her craft.
Talking about chemistry, Ajay Devgn and Diana Penty's screen presence ensured that all eyes are on them. Despite their limited screen time, the duo managed to leave an impression on the audience.
I want to take a moment to appreciate Mohit Malik, who made his Bollywood debut with Azaad. He is a bonafide star in television and he once again proved, why audiences adored him, even in baddie roles. His portrayal of Tej Bahadur looked convincing.
AZAAD FILM REVIEW: WHAT WE LIKED IN FILM?
I never knew a horse could be so expressive! The shiny and spirited Azaad stole the show with his jhakaas expressions and movements in the movie. Kudos to Abhishek Kapoor for bringing the best out of a horse.
The horse stole the limelight with his jhakaas impressions. Who needs dialogues when you have such expressions?
AZAAD MOVIE REVIEW: WHAT WE DIDN'T LIKE?
It was the writing that fell flat as the story seemed predictable in the first half itself. The plot didn't evoke a sense of thrill, failing to keep me on the edge of my seat. The predictable plot marred by a weak script didn't do wonders for the film.
It becomes difficult to get invested in a film where you can predict the story. Something similar happened in Azaad, where I could easily gauge what would happen in the next scene. There was no surprise factor and novelty involved in the film.
AZAAD FILM REVIEW: FINAL VERDICT
The film falls flat on the surface, with the horse only being the saving grace of Azaad. The weak script and boring first half couldn't go unnoticed. The film couldn't utilize its full potential, lacking the required pace for an entertaining film.
Azaad could have been better if the makers applied speed at the right time.
