Ground Zero Movie Review: Emraan Hashmi Delivers A Sincere Performance In This Non-Engaging, Slow-Paced Drama

Ground Zero Movie Review: Ground Zero, starring Emraan Hashmi, is a serious attempt at portraying the harsh realities of terrorism in Kashmir. The film is based on real events and focuses on how young locals in Kashmir are dragged into terrorism for money and the illusion of freedom. While the intention is strong, the execution falls a bit short of leaving a lasting impact.
GROUND ZERO PLOT AND STORY REVIEW
Inspired by a real incident, the story follows BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, played by Emraan Hashmi, who leads a mission to eliminate Ghazi Baba-one of the masterminds behind the 2001 Parliament attack. After a BSF officer is killed in a surprise attack by Mujahidins, Dubey steps in to track down the people responsible, especially the leader of the so-called Pistol Gang, who has already killed over 70 BSF personnel.
GROUND ZERO ACTING REVIEW
Emraan Hashmi gives a sincere performance and brings intensity to his role. His character's journey through the volatile regions of Kashmir is portrayed with realism and restraint. The film also features Sai Tamhankar as his wife, though her role is limited and doesn't contribute much to the main plot.
Among the supporting cast, the young actor who plays Hussain delivers a standout performance. Zoya Hussain also leaves a mark as Nadila, adding depth to the emotional layers of the story.
The film's biggest drawback is its slow-paced first half, which makes it difficult to stay fully engaged. Although the second half picks up momentum, the film as a whole lacks the emotional grip it aims for. It's a good movie with a relevant subject, but something feels missing. Also, given the sensitivity around the Pahalgam tragedy, some viewers might find it disturbing.
GROUND ZERO OVERALL VERDICT
Overall, Ground Zero is a decent watch for those interested in real-life inspired war dramas, but it doesn't fully deliver the emotional and cinematic punch it promises.
