Sitaare Zameen Par REVIEW: Aamir Khan's Endearing Film Packs A Solid Punch, Will Pull At Your Heartstrings

Sitaare Zameen Par Review: Amid a good buzz, Sitaare Zameen Par has finally hit the theatres today (June 20). The film is a spiritual sequel to Aamir Khan's 2007 classic Taare Zameen Par, which first brought the struggles of children with dyslexia to the big screen. But this time, Aamir Khan explores the world of neurodivergent adults in sports. The story is an official Hindi remake of the Spanish movie Campeones, but it's well adapted to suit Indian emotions and culture.
SITAARE ZAMEEN PAR STORYLINE REVIEW
The film begins with Gulshan Arora (played by Aamir Khan), a junior basketball coach suspended from his job due to misconduct. As punishment, he's assigned to coach a team of neurodivergent adults for the National Basketball Championship. Initially frustrated and disconnected, Gulshan struggles to understand their world.
But slowly, it's this group of extraordinary individuals-Sunil, Satbir, Lotus, Sharma Ji, Guddu, Raju, Bantu, Golu, Kareem, and Hargovind-who teach him life's most important lesson: empathy. The journey transforms Gulshan, showing that "normal" means different things to different people.
SITAARE ZAMEEN PAR PERFORMANCE REVIEW
Aamir Khan delivers a strong and relatable performance as a flawed but evolving coach. Supporting actors, including Dolly Ahluwalia, Brijendra Kala, Genelia Deshmukh, and the young team of players, are equally convincing. Dolly, especially, as Gulshan's caring mother, adds emotional depth to the story.
Each character is portrayed with honesty, helping audiences connect with their journeys and personalities. The cast's collective effort gives the film its heart.
While the message is impactful, Sitaare Zameen Par does not strike the same emotional chord as Taare Zameen Par. The first half moves at a slow pace and feels predictable if you've seen similar films before. At times, the movie feels more like a scene-by-scene remake than a fresh take.
Also, as audiences have now seen several films dealing with inclusion and social themes, this one doesn't feel as groundbreaking.
SITAARE ZAMEEN PAR OVERALL VERDICT
Sitaare Zameen Par may not shake your soul like its predecessor, but it still manages to be uplifting and worth a watch. It delivers a beautiful message on acceptance, inclusivity, and human connection, with laughs, tears, and a few touching moments. While the execution isn't flawless, the heart is definitely in the right place.
