TERE ISHK MEIN STORYLINE REVIEW

At the centre of the story is Shankar, played by Dhanush, a brilliant yet troubled Indian Air Force officer. Shankar, despite his exceptional skills, struggles with trust issues and an unpredictable temper. His inability to manage his emotions becomes a major concern for his seniors, who decide he must receive clearance from a counsellor before being allowed to fly again. This sets the stage for a journey into his disturbed past.

Enter Mukti, played by Kriti Sanon, a psychologist who is unexpectedly assigned to Shankar's case. When she goes through his file for the first time, she is shaken seeing his photo. Instead of passing the case on to another counsellor, Mukti takes it upon herself to deal with Shankar personally. Her decision hints at a past connection that unfolds gradually, pulling viewers into an emotional whirlpool.

The narrative then dives into a flashback, revealing how Shankar and Mukti met during their college days. Shankar was the DUSU president known for his volatile nature, while Mukti was pursuing psychology and working on a thesis that revolved around transforming violent behaviour through reform. Their personalities could not be more different, yet that becomes the very reason they collide.

The film beautifully showcases how love can emerge from chaos. Shankar falls for Mukti the moment he sees her - ironically during a fight. Mukti, however, views him as the perfect subject for her academic research and makes it clear that her interest in him is strictly professional. Their relationship begins on conflicting grounds: he wants her heart, and she wants to mould his behaviour to prove her thesis right. To move forward, Mukti agrees to go on a date, but clarifies that her involvement is part of her work. This emotional imbalance later becomes the seed of heartbreak.

As their interactions continue, Shankar falls deeply in love with her, unaware of a significant truth - Mukti still doesn't love her and already has someone in her life. When this revelation comes, Shankar begins to lose control over his emotions. His heartbreak transforms him, pushing him into a journey that eventually leads him to the UPSC exam and eventually join the Indian Air Force. The film cleverly traces this transformation, making it one of the most compelling parts of the narrative.

The first half of the film is filled with light-hearted scenes, college fun, and character-building moments. While it doesn't offer anything extraordinary, it keeps the audience hooked with humour and Raanjhana nostalgia. The tone shifts in the second half, taking a darker and more dramatic turn as the past catches up with the present.

However, this portion suffers from pacing issues and feels unnecessarily stretched, making the emotional weight slightly repetitive. Still, the pre-climax feels stretched and leaves you wanting sharper execution, however, the climax eventually redeems the film to an extent with impactful scenes.

Tere Ishk Mein finds its true strength in its performances, especially from the lead pair. Dhanush delivers a layered, intense, and emotionally gripping act, effortlessly portraying Shankar's rage, heartbreak, and vulnerability. His transformation from an impulsive college rebel to an Air Force officer is one of the most intriguing arcs.

Kriti Sanon matches him beautifully. As Mukti, she brings a refreshing calmness and emotional depth to the film. Kriti excels in moments where her character battles personal conflict and professional responsibility. Her expressions, controlled acting, and evolving chemistry with Dhanush make Mukti memorable. This is undoubtedly one of Kriti's most impactful performances.

Priyanshu Paliyali doesn't have much to do but delivers a good act as Shankar's loyal friend Ved. Prakash Raj shines as Shankar's stern yet caring father. A delightful surprise comes in the form of Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub's special appearance, which will surely remind Raanjhanaa fans of the unforgettable bond he shared with Dhanush.

Tere Ishk Mein may not be a masterpiece, but it is a heartfelt film driven by intense emotions, nostalgia, and strong performances.
