Alpha Review And Rating: Alia Bhatt-Sharvari Starrer Has Style And Action, But Misses The WOW Factor

Rating:
3.0/5

Alpha Review: After a lot of back and forth around its release, Yash Raj Films' Alpha has finally hit the theatres today (July 3) amid a good buzz and decent bookings. The seventh film in YRF Spy Universe, it is the first female led actions featuring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in the lead roles.

Alpha Movie Review And Rating

Is Alpha an entertaining watch? Will YRF Spy Universe bounce back with the film? Well, to know that, let's take a look at the Alpha review here.

ALPHA PLOT REVIEW: HERE'S WHAT TO EXPECT?

The film starts with the introduction of Bobby Deol, who plays Colonel Fateh Singh Lakhawat. He approaches Vikrant Kaul (Anil Kapoor) to help him in his secret programme named Alpha against the country's enemies. Alpha is Fateh's passion project.

The best cadets are injected with a serum called Alpha, which enhances their fighting skills and power. While Vikrant trains the first batch and the results are visibly effective, things soon take a U-Turn due to a shocking incident after which Fateh gets demoted, and his passion programme Alpha is shut down permanently.

However, he decides to continue it secretly and continue training baby Sita. On her 18th birthday, she is assigned her first mission, setting the stage for a journey filled with hidden identities, family secrets, and revenge. Sharvari plays Durga, whose search for her sister becomes one of the film's emotional anchors.

The first half turns out to be watchable and holds the audience's attention. The second half introduces bigger twists and action sequences that are expected in a YRF Spy Universe film. The editing could've been crisper as the second half got a little stretched. While I found Alpha comparatively better than War 2, there's nothing new, unique, or unpredictable in Alpha.

ALPHA PERFORMANCE REVIEW

Performance-wise, the efforts of the main cast are visible onscreen as they've delivered decent performances. While Alia Bhatt has given her best and carries the film on her shoulders, she isn't convincing enough as a soldier or fighter, particularly during some of the larger action sequences.

On the other hand, Sharvari is looking stunning in the film and has only a few good scenes to shine. Her fight scene with Alia was among the highlights of the film. Anil Kapoor reprises his role as RAW Chief Vikrant Kaul, but his character doesn't get much development beyond supporting the central mission. Bobby Deol delivered a strong performance as the antagonist Fateh, but his Haryanvi accent was bad and distracting.

Hrithik Roshan's cameo was fun as he made his mark once again as Kabir. His fans are going to love his special appearance in Alpha.

ALPHA REVIEW: OVERALL VERDICT

On the whole, Alpha is not as bad as Bobby Deol's Haryanvi accent and is a decent one-time watch. While it has nothing new to offer, you can still watch it if you're a fan of action-packed spy thrillers.
