Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Movie Review: Varun Dhawan’s Double Pregnancy Chaos Fails To Fully Impress

Rating:
2.5/5

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Movie Review: After generating decent buzz among moviegoers, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has finally arrived in theatres today (June 5). Starring Varun Dhawan, Mrunal Thakur, and Pooja Hegde in lead roles, the romantic comedy promises a mix of romance, family drama, misunderstandings, and humour. While the film does offer a few entertaining moments, it struggles to maintain consistency and eventually settles for being a strictly average watch.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai Movie Review Out

Let's take a look at the full review of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai below.

HAI JAWANI TOH ISHQ HONA HAI STORY REVIEW

The story revolves around Jas, played by Varun Dhawan, a wedding photographer who meets Bani (Mrunal Thakur) at her sister's wedding. The two quickly fall in love and get married. However, five years later, their relationship hits a rough patch. Jas wants to start a family, while Bani is focused on building her career and is not ready to become a mother.

The couple reaches court seeking a divorce, but they are given five months before the separation is officially granted. As they begin living separate lives, Jas meets Preet (Pooja Hegde), and a new romance starts to blossom. Just when things seem to be moving smoothly, Bani returns with shocking news - she is pregnant with Jas's child.

At the same time, Preet also reveals that she is expecting. What follows is a comedy of confusion as Jas desperately tries to keep the truth hidden from both women. The film starts on a simple note. While the first half remains easy to follow, it lacks strong humour and emotional impact. The narrative becomes more engaging in the second half, especially after Mouni Roy enters the story as Jas's fake mother. Her character brings much-needed energy and delivers some of the film's funniest moments.

The biggest drawback of Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is its humour. Despite being marketed as an entertainer, many jokes fail to create the desired impact. A handful of scenes work well, but the overall comedy quotient remains inconsistent.

HAI JAWANI TOH ISHQ HONA HAI PERFORMANCE REVIEW

Performance-wise, the lead cast does a decent job. Varun Dhawan is energetic and likeable as Jas, although he tends to overact in a few scenes. Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde fit their glamorous roles well and look absolutely beautiful. Jimmy Shergill, Maniesh Paul, Rakesh Bedi, and Chunky Panday have limited screen time but perform effectively within their scope.

Mouni Roy stands out despite her late entry and emerges as one of the biggest highlights of the film. Her comic timing and entertaining track inject freshness into the narrative. Meanwhile, cameo appearances by Rajpal Yadav, Johny Lever, and Kriti Sanon add a surprise factor and are likely to draw cheers from audiences.

HAI JAWANI TOH ISHQ HONA HAI MOVIE REVIEW - OVERALL VERDICT

On the whole, Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has a few enjoyable moments, some decent performances, and an entertaining second half, but it falls short of its potential. While Mouni Roy's track and a few comic situations keep the film afloat, the weak humour and predictable storytelling prevent it from becoming a memorable entertainer.
