O Romeo Movie Review: Shahid Kapoor, Triptii Dimri’s Performances Elevate This Gritty Love And Revenge Drama
O'Romeo Movie Review: After Kaminey, Haider, and Rangoon, Bollywood star Shahid Kapoor and acclaimed director Vishal Bharadwaj are finally back to entertain moviegoers with their new film O Romeo. Also featuring Triptii Dimri, Nana Patekar, Avinash Tiwary, Tamannaah Bhatia, Disha Patani, and Vikrant Massey in key roles, the film has finally hit the theatres today (February 13).

Is the film worth watching? Let's take a look at the detailed review of O Romeo below.
O ROMEO PLOT REVIEW
O Romeo is set in Mumbai in 1995 and carries the signature mood and storytelling style of filmmaker Vishal Bharadwaj. The film blends crime, romance, and revenge, delivering a story that is emotionally strong but uneven in pace.
Shahid Kapoor plays Ustara, a feared gangster with a conflicted heart. His life is closely connected to police officer Khan, played with authority by Nana Patekar. Khan once saved Ustara from Jalal (played by Avinash Tiwary), and since then, the two have been working together to kill him.
The story takes a turn when Ustara meets Afsha (Triptii Dimri). She approaches him with a contract (supari) to kill four men, including Jalal. Through flashbacks, we see her happy life with her lover-turned-husband Babloo, played by Vikrant Massey. Their love feels genuine and pure, making the tragedy that follows more painful.
Babloo works as an accountant for Jalal, who is based in Spain. When Afsha asks him to quit, Babloo agrees. Soon after, Jalal's men kill him. Afsha's fight for justice fails in court, pushing her towards revenge. While she approached Ustara to avenge her husband's death, he falls deeply in love with her and decides to help her seek justice.
The first half of the film is strictly decent and focuses on building characters and backstories. The entry of Avinash Tiwary as Jalal just before the interval raises expectations.
The second half centres on Ustara's intense love for Afsha and her journey of revenge. While the performances, direction, and cinematography are impressive, the film suffers from slow pacing at times. The emotional high points expected in the latter half feel slightly dull.
O ROMEO PERFORMANCE REVIEW
O Romeo has a promising cast, and the performances are a major highlight of the film. Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri are top-notch and deliver strong performances. Avinash Tiwary, too, is amazing as Jalal despite limited screen space. Nana Patekar brilliantly plays his part well.
Farida Jalal adds warmth as Ustara's dadi, grounding his violent world with emotional depth. In the second half, Tamannaah Bhatia appears as Jalal's wife. Though her screen time is limited, she leaves a strong impact with a layered performance.
Vikrant Massey also made his mark in a special appearance as Afsha's husband. Disha Patani did fine in the songs Aashiqon Ki Colony and Paan Ki Dukaan.
O ROMEO OVERALL VERDICT
Overall, O Romeo is a strictly decent one-time watch. Though it was promoted as Vishal Bharadwaj's most massy film, it turned out to be another trademark Vishal Bharadwaj story with a touch of violence and gore.
It's better than Shahid and Vishal Bharadwaj's last outing together, Rangoon. Fans of Bharadwaj's cinema will appreciate the strong emotions, dark tone, and the perfect chemistry between Shahid Kapoor and Triptii Dimri, even if it does not fully meet the high expectations.
