Achintya Bose: From Yeh Ballet To Waack Girls To A Flourishing Career In Dance And Film

Achintya Bose, a dancer, actor, and model from Mumbai, is a name increasingly making waves in the world of filmed content and performance art. With his recent cameo in Waack Girls, Sooni Taraporevala's latest creation on Amazon Prime Video, Bose delivers a standout performance that cements his reputation as a rising star.
Waack Girls delves into the lesser-known dance form of Waacking, or Punking, following an all-girls group in Kolkata. Bose plays Manik, the loyal and tenderly masculine confidante to the protagonist, Ishani. As one reviewer aptly put it, Manik represents "the presence of tender and enabling masculinity," offering a refreshing break from the stereotypical macho roles often seen in film.
Bose's journey into the arts began at a young age. His breakout role came in 2020 when he portrayed Asif in Sooni Taraporevala's Netflix film Yeh Ballet. The film, which tells the story of two young dancers from Mumbai's underbelly making it to a prestigious ballet school in the US, earned widespread acclaim. Taraporevala herself dubbed him her "Miracle Boy," a fitting accolade for his impressive debut.
Currently studying Dance at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in Los Angeles, Bose is further honing his craft and expanding his artistic horizons. But it's not just his acting and dancing that set Bose apart-his dedication to his craft, despite coming from humble beginnings, is truly inspiring. Raised by a single mother, his education at CalArts is funded by a combination of financial aid and the support of generous donors, including figures from the Indian film industry. Bose's ongoing fundraising campaign, championed by Rita Meher, reflects the collective belief in his potential.
Film critics and industry professionals alike have recognized Bose's unique ability to bridge the gap between artistry and humanity. As Abhishek Shrivastava from the Times of India wrote about his performance in Waack Girls, "Achintya Bose impresses as Manik, Ishani's loyal confidant and best friend, bringing heart and sincerity to the role of a true companion." Similarly, Anouk Van Dijk, Founding Artistic Director of Countertechnique, praises him as "exceptionally talented," highlighting his combination of grace, virtuosity, and humanity-qualities that the world of dance and performance sorely needs.
As he continues to explore and challenge the limits of his craft, there's no doubt that Achintya Bose is a talent to watch out for-a true artist who will leave a lasting impact on both the Indian and international performance landscape.
