EXCLUSIVE: Rajiv Joseph On Bringing Letters Of Suresh To India, Audience Reaction & More

At Filmibeat, we believe in interacting with varied artists, filmmakers, writers to know their version and approach towards their craft. When we got an opportunity to have a meaningful conversation with Rajiv Joseph about his teleplay Letters of Suresh, we didn't miss it.
1- What drew you to an epistolary format and are there any plays in this genre that you have loved in the past?
Once upon a time, I was an avid letter writer... but technology, it seems, has ended this grand tradition. I wanted to explore it, in part, because I miss it. Also, the play "Love Letters" by AR Gurney is a great inspiration to me.
2. Are you familiar with Feroz Abbas Khan's oeuvre and how did you both connect and come together to bring Letters of Suresh to India ?
I am familiar with Feroz's body of work, and it was a huge honor to meet him and discover he wanted to produce my play.
3. How involved were you with the stage production that the Indian audience will now see?
I was not involved at all, but I have immense faith in Feroz's vision.
4. Do you think the themes in the play will strike a chord with the Indian audience?
I hope so!
5. How does your mixed heritage inform your work as a playwright?
I think I am always looking at people and places from a double perspective, and this has been a boon as a writer.
