2024 NFDC Film Bazaar Showcases Diverse Films

Scheduled to take place at the Marriott Resort in Goa from November 20 to 24, the 18th edition of the NFDC Film Bazaar 2024 stands out for its impressive lineup in the Co-Production Market. This year's selection boasts 21 feature films and 8 web series projects, encompassing a broad linguistic range that includes Hindi, English, Assamese, Tamil, Marwari, Bengali, Malayalam, and several other languages. This diversity not only showcases narratives from seven different countries but also reflects the event's commitment to promoting multicultural storytelling. The Film Bazaar has become a crucial forum where filmmakers can present their ideas to a global audience of producers, distributors, and financiers, thanks to a collaboration with the Asia TV Forum & Market (ATF) for a project cross-exchange initiative.

This year, the Co-Production Market, known for its pivotal role in the film industry, received an overwhelming number of submissions. A total of 180 feature film proposals were submitted from 23 countries, covering 30 languages, alongside 38 web series proposals from 8 countries in 14 languages. This immense response underscores the market's significance in providing financial backing and a platform for a wide array of cinematic works that span genres such as drama, comedy, action, and thriller.

Among the standout feature film projects is "A Night's Whispers and the Winds," a narrative exploring themes through the Assamese language by producer Prateek Bagi and director Krrishna Kt. Borah. "Aadu Ki Kasam" (Destiny's Dance), pitched by producer Alan McAlex and director Saraswathi Vani Balgam, is presented in English and Hindi. Furthermore, "Aanaikatti Blues," a Tamil project by producers Madhu Mohan, Siva KG, and Mathivanan Rajendran, directed by Arun Karthick, is also part of the exciting lineup.

In addition, the market features projects such as "Absent," a film in Hindi and English by producers Abhishek Chaubey and Honey Trehan, directed by Rohan K Mehta. "All Ten Heads Of Ravanna," a Hindi project by producer Bich-Quan Tran and director-producer Pranjal Dua, and "Chetak," a Hindi and Marwari film by producer Suruchi Sharma and director Bhuwan Somani, demonstrate the diverse storytelling present in this year's selection. "Divine Chords" from Bangladesh and India, presented in Bengali by producers Aadnan Imtiaz Ahmed and Jonaki Bhattacharya, directed by Talat Ahmed, along with "Feral" in English by producers Tobias Reeuwijk and Nancy Degnan, directed by Nihaarika Negi, are also highlighted.

The web series section introduces equally intriguing projects, such as "Age Of Deccan - The Legend Of Malik Ambar" in Hindi and English, produced by Shobu Yarlagadda and directed by Krish Jagarlamudi. Additionally, "Chauhans BNB Bed And Basera" in Hindi, produced by Ujjawal Dubey and directed by Shivangi Singh, showcases the potential for new and engaging narratives in the digital space.

Film Bazaar's dedication to fostering South Asian cinema and enabling international collaborations has established it as an essential platform for filmmakers seeking to network, pitch, and secure support for their projects. The collaboration with various film festivals and markets enhances its role in promoting regional cinema on a global scale. With the NFDC's support of over 300 films in numerous regional languages, the Indian film industry's diversity and international appeal continue to grow, marking the Film Bazaar as a cornerstone event in the cinematic calendar.
