Addinath M Kothare Shares Excitement About Winning Big With Paani: Feels Like All Struggles Were Worth It
Addinath Kothare discusses the success of his film Paani at the Filmfare Marathi Awards and shares insights on balancing his roles in acting and directing while pursuing new projects.

After a triumphant night at the Filmfare Marathi Awards, where his film "Paani" secured 10 awards, including Best Film and Best Director, Addinath Kothare remains driven. In a candid conversation, he shares insights on why "Paani" resonated with audiences, how he manages life in front of and behind the camera, and why he feels his journey is just beginning despite the accolades.
"Thank you so much! Honestly, it's still sinking in. Paani was born out of genuine passion to tell relevant stories and from a place of real concern about something that affects so many lives. To see that story resonate with audiences was already the biggest reward for us. And then for it to be celebrated like this at Filmfare, with so many of our departments recognised, is deeply fulfilling. It feels like all the struggles and sleepless nights were worth it."
Film's Honest Approach
Kothare attributes the film's success to its authenticity. "We didn't set out to make a message-heavy film or glamourise the issue," he explains. Water scarcity is a harsh reality for many, and they aimed to portray it with empathy. The dedication from everyone involved, including Priyanka, Madhu, his father Siddharth, and others on set, contributed significantly to its impact.
Currently wrapping up "Bena," Kothare is also developing another film project. He finds excitement in exploring different genres and larger canvases. "Bena," which he is producing and acting in, is an intimate film close to his heart. The next project is still evolving but promises new challenges as he continues pushing his boundaries.
Balancing Acting and Directing
On balancing acting and directing roles, Kothare finds both challenging yet exhilarating. Acting allows him to embrace someone else's vision while directing involves creating a world from scratch. He credits his supportive home environment for helping him maintain balance amidst these demands.
"It's exciting to have that kind of variety," Kothare says about working across Marathi and Hindi cinema. For him, language is merely a medium; good stories are universal. He recently completed his first Malayalam film and looks forward to more diverse narratives.
Upcoming Projects
Kothare's upcoming projects include "Ramayana" with Nitesh Tiwari and another major untitled Hindi feature. While details about the latter remain under wraps, he's thrilled about both ventures. Working on "Ramayana" with brilliant minds is an honour for him.
Reflecting on what keeps him grounded amidst success, Kothare credits his family for reminding him of life's fleeting nature. They help keep his feet firmly on the ground while acknowledging there's always more to learn.
As he prepares to reprise his role in "Zapatlela 3," Kothare continues seamlessly transitioning between different cinematic worlds. His commitment remains focused on being part of narratives that move people regardless of language or genre.
