Diljit Speaks About Embodying Chamkila, The Emotional Moments Behind The Film

Diljit Dosanjh received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor at the International Emmys for Netflix's Amar Singh Chamkila. For him, the recognition is not just a professional milestone, it is a deeply personal moment that takes him back to the emotional journey of bringing Chamkila's story to life and embodying a legend whose presence he felt at every step.

Reflecting on what the honour truly means to him, he said, "I'm here for chamkila, chamkila gave me the chance to do his biopic, chamkila gave me the opportunity to live his character on screen, and whatever real moments he went through in his life even if only for a few seconds I felt them myself, So I'm here for chamkila and that's all I want to remember and I want to thank chamkila wherever he is for giving me the chance to do his biopic"

That emotional connection only deepened as the film neared release. Diljit recalls the moment he first watched the trailer, a moment that stayed with him long after. "He shared, "The first time I saw the trailer of Amar Singh Chamkila was backstage on the day of trailer launch. There was a shot in the film where I had to sit in the field, turn around, look at the camera and smile, but when I saw that shot in the trailer, where my character of Chamkila turned around and looked at me, I felt like Chamkila himself was watching me and smiling and that got me very emotional, I could actually feel Chamkila's presence there."

For Diljit, the International Emmy nomination is not about personal achievement, it is a tribute to Chamkila, an artist he deeply reveres.

As he reflects on the legacy of the man he portrayed, he says
"Every artist has to face all kinds of difficulties in life, and until he dies, people never call him great. They never get the love they deserve. Chamkila was a hundred times better an artist than I am, and I want to thank Chamkila for giving me the chance to do his biopic. The world's finest artists will be sitting there and they'll be talking about Chamkila, and I'm here for Chamkila. Even though he's gone, he is still a hit."
