Somy Ali Reacts To Influencer Misha Agrawal s Death

Former Bollywood actress and activist Somy Ali shares her response to the tragic demise of influencer Misha Aggarwal, who reportedly ended her life due to the pressures of online validation. Though Somy did not personally know Aggarwal, she says she knows her story "intimately"-because it mirrors the struggles of countless young women navigating the unforgiving ecosystem of social media.

"This isn't just a mental health crisis," Somy said. "This is a societal collapse of values. Somy criticizes the growing culture of equating human worth with digital metrics-likes, followers, views, and engagement. "Once upon a time, value was measured in dignity, purpose, character. Now? It's quantified in views. Hearts. Blue ticks," she notes, calling this shift "the new currency of worth."

Somy, who runs her nonprofit No More Tears in the US, has long been vocal about issues related to abuse, trauma, and emotional healing. In this latest reflection, she broadens her lens to tackle what she calls a more invisible predator: the algorithm. "Misha ended her life over numbers... But this wasn't about Instagram. It was about identity," she writes. "We've handed our sense of self-worth to invisible gatekeepers who decide whether we are seen, liked, or simply... left behind."

Somy Ali shares that she has spoken with casting directors who openly admit to prioritizing digital reach over raw talent or experience. "As if trauma needs to be monetized to be validated," she laments. "As if justice needs likes to exist."

Her message is clear and urgent: we've created a system where emotional fragility is punished, not protected. In a world where being "seen" digitally often matters more than being supported emotionally, Somy questions whether we truly showed up for Misha-or only watched her ascent, not her struggles.

She directly addresses creators lost in the trap of online metrics: "To every artist tempted to buy fake followers-you are real. To every young woman spiraling into despair because her post didn't go viral-you are not your numbers."

Somy ends with a call to action, grounded in what she calls Somyism-a philosophy of truth over trend, connection over curation. "We must reclaim our sanity from this machine. We must grieve Misha by changing the script."

She says, "You were enough long before you logged in. We failed you by making you believe otherwise. May your soul find the peace this world refused to offer. And may we never again let silence follow a muted scream."
