Who Is Siddhant Das? Drunk Kolkata Filmmaker Crashes SUV Into Market Leaving 1 Dead & 8 Injured

Kolkata Accident By Filmmaker: A film and television director, named Siddhant Das, came under limelight after he rammed his SUV into Thakurpukur market near Kolkata on Sunday morning. The accident killed one on the spot while leaving eight others seriously injured. Siddhant, who was accompanied by a woman by his side, is arrested along with his co-passenger. According to the reports, there was another woman in the backseat who fled the spot after the accident took place.

"The accident occurred around 9:30 AM when the vehicle lost control in the overcrowded Thakurpukur Bazar on Bakrahat Road, knocking down nine pedestrians," an official told PTI.

Who Is Siddhant Das?

Siddhant Das is a 35-year-old filmmaker, who is a known personality in the Tollywood industry for making TV serials and films. Das was reportedly travelling to Gariahat to Bakrahat when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a market which remains the busiest on Sundays as locals buy groceries and vegetables. The filmmaker lost control of his vehicle, under the influence of alcohol, and crashed his car into the crowded market leaving a 63-year-old vegetable vendor, Aminur Rahman, dead. The car stopped after it hit a parked scooter. Several two wheelers and carts were also damaged in the incident.

Reportedly, Rahman was rushed to hospital, however, he was declared dead. Another local, 68-year-old Joydeb Majumdar are also hospitalised and is currently fighting for his life, and other seven injured are given first-aid facility before discharging them on the same day.

After the accident, locals informed the police and pulled Das out of the car, and beat him until the authorities came and took control of the situation. Later, Das was taken into police custody. Reports further suggested that four bottles of alcohol were found in his car.

"The vehicle has been seized and will be sent for examination. The driver has been arrested and will be produced in court on Monday," stated the police.
