As per reports, the celebrated musician breathed his last on Sunday morning, January 25, after being in a coma for the past few months.

According to Kalinga TV, 54-year-old Abhijit Majumdar breathed his last at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, where he had been admitted for the treatment of his chronic disease. His health reportedly took a serious turn in August 2025, when he fell critically ill and was rushed to a private hospital in Cuttack. Doctors identified alarming medical concerns, including dangerously low sodium levels, following which he was kept under close observation and treated for multiple complications.

As his condition worsened, the veteran composer was later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar in September, where he was admitted to the ICU. He was placed on ventilator support and was reported to be in a coma. According to reports, Abhijit Majumdar had been battling several underlying health issues, such as hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease, even before his condition became critical. Despite prolonged medical care and efforts by doctors, his health continued to decline, eventually leading to his untimely demise.

Who Was Abhijit Majumdar?

Abhijit Majumdar was a towering figure in the Ollywood music industry, whose melodies became an inseparable part of Odia cinema. He began his journey in the Odia film industry in 1991 and soon carved a special place for himself with his distinctive musical style. Over the decades, Majumdar went on to compose over 700 songs across Odia films, music albums, and the Sambalpuri music scene, showcasing his remarkable versatility.

Several of his compositions went on to achieve cult status, striking an emotional chord with listeners of all ages. Songs like "To Hrudaya Kichhi Kahila," "Hilere Hile Hile," and "Hasa Gote" remain fan favourites and continue to be celebrated even today.
