Federal investigators claim Wang's public image in politics and community outreach allegedly masked a much larger operation happening behind the scenes. According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Wang and Sun reportedly managed a media platform called U.S. News Centre, which appeared to function as a standard Chinese-American news website.

However, prosecutors allege the platform was actually used to distribute propaganda content provided by individuals connected to Beijing. Court documents further claim the duo received prepared articles, messaging guidance, and publishing instructions from sources allegedly tied to the Chinese government, raising major concerns over foreign influence efforts operating within the U.S.

Who Is Eileen Wang?

Eileen Wang is a former Arcadia city leader who rose to prominence after being elected to the Arcadia City Council in November 2022, according to CNN.

Originally from China, Wang revealed in a 2024 interview that she relocated to Southern California nearly 30 years ago in pursuit of a new life and career opportunities. A Los Angeles Times reported that she comes from a medical family background - her mother reportedly practiced Chinese medicine and acupuncture, while her father worked as a physician in Sichuan province.

Beyond politics, she is also known as a mother of two and has reportedly lived in Arcadia for close to two decades, as per BollywoodShaadis.

Yaoning Mike Sun has emerged as a central figure in the federal investigation involving former Arcadia mayor Eileen Wang. According to prosecutors, Sun was allegedly Wang's co-conspirator in a scheme tied to spreading pro-China propaganda within the United States on behalf of officials linked to the Chinese government.

Federal authorities claim the pair worked together in activities connected to political influence and media messaging aimed at Chinese-American audiences. Investigators allege that Sun played a key operational role in the broader network now under federal scrutiny.

Court records show that Sun pleaded guilty in October 2025 to acting as an illegal agent of a foreign government. Months later, in February 2026, he was sentenced to 48 months in federal prison after admitting that he secretly operated as an undisclosed agent for the People's Republic of China (PRC).

Prosecutors further stated that Sun carried out some of these activities while serving as a campaign adviser for a successful Southern California city council candidate.
