EXCL Keshav Tyohar Reveals Story Behind Meena Bazaar

KESHAV TYOHAR REVEALS INSPIRATION BEHIND MEENA BAZAAR AND MORE

Speaking about the inspiration behind the song in ean exclusive chat with Filmibeat Assistant Editor Aakash Kumar, Keshav Tyohar revealed that he wanted to create something rooted in Indian culture while keeping it relatable and modern. "I wanted to write a song about that desi charm through my own lens of Hindi independent music. A lot of people have spoken about Indian beauty before, but I wanted a fresh take. Something real, something you'd actually say to someone," he shared.

The idea took shape when his co-songwriter Pulkit Singh suggested the phrase 'Meena Bazaar.' "People have often said, 'You look as beautiful as Meena Bazaar,' but no one really says, 'You are my Meena Bazaar.' That felt real and interesting to me," Keshav explained.

Interestingly, the song also comes from a very personal place. The singer admitted that he often struggled to find the right words when complimenting someone dressed in traditional Indian attire. "Whenever I've had to compliment someone dressed in Indian attire, I've always felt a lack of words. I think now I know what to say," he said.

While Meena Bazaar is being seen as the beginning of a larger musical journey, Keshav clarified that it is not exactly a three-part narrative. However, the first few songs released this year belong to the same creative world. "These songs are built around a fresh sound and songwriting that celebrates desi-ness and appreciates the beauty of women being themselves. It felt like the right place to begin the music I want to share this year," he said.

According to Keshav, the concept developed naturally rather than through detailed planning. "It started with one song, but as we explored that world further, we found many more interesting ideas. So yes, it grew very organically," he added.

KESHAV TYOHAR OPENS UP ABOUT THE GROWTH OF INDEPENDENT MUSIC IN INDIA

Talking about the growth of independent music in India, Keshav said artists today have more freedom than ever before. Having started his career around the Bollywood ecosystem, he has witnessed a major shift in how audiences consume music.
"As an independent artist, I feel more empowered than ever. Independent music has helped level the playing field. Today, honest music has a real chance to find its audience," he said.

He also believes listeners are far more open to discovering new artists and unconventional stories. "Artists today are making music that's truly personal to them. Listeners have more choice than ever before, and that's played a huge role in opening people up to new artists and new kinds of storytelling."

Reflecting on his own journey, Keshav credited collaborations for shaping him as an artist. From his days as a Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Lil Champs runner-up to producing for MTV Hustle 3, singing for Netflix's Mismatched, and working with artists like Shreya Ghoshal, every experience has added to his growth.

"I'm always hungry for more opportunities because every collaboration helps me tell my stories better," he said.

When asked which actor he would love to do playback singing for, Keshav had a clear answer. Referring to an unreleased version of Gehra Hua from Dhurandhar, he said, "Just to complete that circle, I'd say Ranveer Singh."

With Meena Bazaar, Keshav Tyohar continues to carve his own path in the independent music space, blending contemporary sounds with a strong sense of Indian identity.
