German Influencer LizLaz Reacts To Virat Kohli Liking Her Instagram Pic: That Was Probably Not His Intention

The brief Instagram like from Virat Kohli on LizLaz’s photo becomes a viral catalyst, drawing fans, memes, and media attention. LizLaz explains the surprise and gratitude while discussions link the moment to broader cricket fandom and cross‑border online culture, boosting her profile and prompting renewed interest in India’s IPL context.

Virat Kohli briefly liked and then unliked an Instagram photo by vlogger-musician LizLaz, and that simple action has turned into a full-blown viral moment. Social media users tracked the activity, shared screenshots, and quickly linked it to Kohli's 2025 'likegate’ with actor Avneet Kaur, sparking memes, jokes and intense online debate through the day.

The spotlight has now shifted to LizLaz, whose photograph is at the centre of this digital storm. Speaking to HT City, LizLaz says the sudden fame feels unreal and a little confusing, yet also flattering. The German creator is now fielding huge attention from Indian fans who discovered the account through Kohli’s brief interaction.

Virat Kohli Instagram like makes LizLaz go viral

Recalling the moment, LizLaz shares that the news reached her before she even checked Instagram. "It was crazy because I woke up and then I was all over the news," is her first reaction. She adds that "I don't even know when he liked the picture, I learnt through the news." Friends and strangers flooded her DMs with links, and "I got so many messages today, people were super excited about it."

The wave of interest has also pushed an old interview of LizLaz back into circulation. In that clip, she openly mentions being a Virat Kohli admirer. Fans online are now treating that earlier confession as a curious coincidence, linking it to the current Instagram like and discussing the unexpected connection across platforms.

Virat Kohli Instagram like ties back to India trip and cricket fandom

The link between LizLaz and Virat Kohli actually began during an India visit last year. She travelled mainly to meet a close friend in Bangalore and planned a short two-week stay. The trip stretched into several months instead, as LizLaz explored South India, Goa, Mysore, Coorg, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad and later parts of the north.

During that extended stay, LizLaz discovered cricket for the first time. She says the sport was new because she was born in South Africa and raised in Germany, where football dominates popular culture. Surrounded by Bangalorean friends during the IPL last year, she started watching matches and slowly became a Royal Challengers Bangalore supporter.

Virat Kohli Instagram like and later unlike leaves LizLaz thoughtful

Watching the IPL, one player stood out to her more than anyone else. "It was obviously the IPL last year, so I started watching with my Bangalorean friends. It was contagious. I was also becoming a Royal Challengers Bangalore fan. And obviously, if you support RCB, Virat Kohli is the most exciting player to watch. He's just so good. So I was happy about him liking the picture."

That is why the brief Instagram like from Virat Kohli carried emotional weight for LizLaz, even though it vanished later. "No, I felt a bit sorry for him actually!," says Liz to HT. She explains feeling "a bit bad for him because I don't even know how it became such a big story," and believes the attention "was probably not his intention behind it," while still being thankful for the gesture and "support from him."

The viral moment has triggered fresh professional interest in LizLaz, who balances vlogging with music. She says, "There have been so many queries. But I am taking my time." LizLaz would like to pursue music in India if suitable offers appear and adds, "Maybe I will visit again soon. I wish I was there for the IPL this time." Entertainment journalist Rishabh Suri, who covers films and OTT for HT City, brings this conversation.
