In a new ownership structural move, Aditya Birla-led consortium, which also consists of Times of India Group, David Blitzer's Bolt Ventures and US-based Blackstone investment group, has bought the RCB franchise (both men and women) for a whopping USD 1.78 billion (more than Rs 16,000 cr).
In a major shake-up, a consortium has sealed the deal with United Spirits Limited, owned by UK-based Diageo. As part of the revamped structure, Aryaman Birla, a director at the Aditya Birla Group, steps in as RCB chairman, while Satyan Gajwani of the Times Group assumes the vice-chairman role.
Who Is Aryaman Birla?
Born on July 9, 1997, Aryaman Birla is the son of the business tycoon Kumar Mangalam Birla, the chairperson of the Aditya Birla Group. Aryaman is an ex-cricketer who represented Madhya Pradesh in domestic cricket.
Back in 2018, Aryaman was picked up by the Rajasthan Royals during the IPL auction for Rs 30 lakhs. But he didn't play a single match and was released right before IPL 2020. In December 2019, 22-year-old Aryaman had announced his 'sabbatical' from cricket, citing severe anxiety related to the sport. Back in the day, he'd share the dressing room with Rajat Patidar and Venkatesh Iyer.
"I have felt trapped. I have pushed myself through all the distress so far but now I feel the need to put my mental health and well being above all else," Birla wrote on Instagram. On the said social media app, the 28-year-old currently has 80.2k followers.
On the personal front, details about his dating life have been kept away from the limelight. However, last year, a Reddit thread about Aryaman allegedly getting engaged in 2026 grabbed attention on the internet.
Talking about his new role, Aryaman said in a statement, "It is a privilege to come together in this partnership to shape the next phase of growth for RCB. This partnership brings together a deep understanding of sports, media and consumer businesses."
