NFDC Partners with Ocean Film Festival of India for Marine Biodiversity Masterclass
The National Film Development Corporation of India and the Ocean Film Festival of India host a public masterclass on marine biodiversity in Mumbai. The session combines cinema with marine science to explain underwater ecosystems, from coral reefs to deep ocean zones, and stresses the role of ocean health in everyday life.
The National Film Development Corporation of India is joining hands with the Ocean Film Festival of India to present a public masterclass titled "Marine Biodiversity: Life Under Water." The session explores the delicate underwater world, linking cinematic storytelling with real marine science and stressing why ocean ecosystems matter to everyday life.

The event is scheduled on April 5, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. It takes place at Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Botanical Udyan and Zoo, also known as Rani Baug, in Mumbai. Organisers plan an experience that moves beyond a classroom talk and invites close attention to the sea.
The masterclass guides participants from colourful coral reef structures to deeper, lesser-known ocean zones. Organisers emphasise that the format is immersive, not a standard lecture. The journey through these habitats highlights a clear message about protecting natural systems that quietly keep life on Earth functioning.
The session is led by marine ecologist Dr. Deepak Apte, a Whitley Award recipient and experienced underwater photographer. Dr. Apte has spent decades in the field and logged more than 5,000 diving hours. Dr. Apte is recognised for explaining complex marine ecosystems in ways that engage many kinds of audiences.
For NFDC, this partnership extends ongoing efforts to support conversations that link films with real social and environmental themes. By working with the Ocean Film Festival of India, NFDC aims to connect storytelling, scientific insight and public dialogue on marine biodiversity in a format that feels accessible and relevant.
