Niranjan Mondal (Laughtersane) On Acting Debut With Birangana, Making Relatable Content & More- EXCLUSIVE

Niranjan Mondal (Laughtersane) interview: At Filmibeat, we love interacting with artists and creators who are passionate about their craft. We are living in the era of Instagram, where conversations revolve around reels and content. But the content should have substance and meaning attached to it, right?

Your content is rooted in everyday humour and relatability

As we interacted with Niranjan Mondal aka Laughtersane, we fell in love with the way he shared his experience and the art of storytelling. The leading digital creator is known for his relatable humour and character-led storytelling. Alongside his strong presence in short-form content that draws millions of views, he has also made a mark as an actor, notably with his performance in the Hoichoi original series Birangana.

In an exclusive conversation with Filmibeat Chief Copy Editor Abhishek Ranjit, Niranjan spilled the beans on how he creates his content. From the number and algorithm game to maintaining consistency, the Bengali lad got candid in a fun-filled chat over a cup of coffee.

Here are excerpts from the interview

1. Your content is rooted in everyday humour and relatability. What helps you spot moments from daily life that resonate so strongly with audiences online?

I think it really comes down to being present. I pay attention to small, seemingly insignificant moments-family conversations, things people say casually, awkward silences, habits we've normalised. These moments already carry humour within them; I'm just holding up a mirror to everyday life.

2. Your reels often draw millions of views organically. What do you think audiences connect with most in your work?

I'm not constantly hunting for content. I'm just present in everyday situations-family conversations, street observations, things we usually brush off as too ordinary. When people watch my videos, they're not laughing at a joke; they're recognising themselves or someone they know. That familiarity creates the connection.

3. Consistency is critical in the digital space. How do you keep your content fresh while maintaining a regular posting rhythm?

Consistency doesn't mean repeating the same joke every day; it means showing up honestly. I rotate formats-sometimes a sketch, sometimes quiet observation, sometimes the same idea approached differently. I also don't over-polish everything. Some ideas need production, some just need timing. I treat consistency as a habit, not a pressure.

4. You've also stepped into acting. How does performing in scripted content differ from creating short-form digital videos?

Short-form content comes from instinct-you're writing, performing, and editing almost in the same breath. It's fast, personal, and very you. Scripted acting asks you to slow down and surrender to the script, the director, and the character. You're not reacting as yourself anymore. That shift is challenging but exciting-it pushes me beyond my comfort zone.

5. Was acting always part of your long-term plan, or did it emerge naturally?

It emerged very naturally as my content journey evolved. I'm genuinely obsessed with filmmaking as a whole-not just acting. If I get a chance to be involved in any aspect of filmmaking, I'm always open to it.

6. Does your understanding of audience behaviour as a creator give you an advantage as an actor?

It gives me awareness, not an advantage. As a creator, you're constantly reading the room-when people lean in, when something feels forced. That helps me understand rhythm, pauses, and emotional beats. But as an actor, I eventually have to forget all of that. If I start performing for the audience instead of as the character, it shows. The balance is letting the creator brain prepare me, and the actor brain take over on camera.

7. There's still a perception that digital creators struggle to be taken seriously as actors. How do you respond to that?

If you can act, people will take you seriously as an actor. It's as simple as that.

8. Are there specific genres or roles you're keen to explore as you grow as an actor?

I don't want to limit myself to one genre too early. Any character that has its own voice and depth within the story interests me.

9. With a large and engaged audience comes influence. How conscious are you of that responsibility?

I'm very conscious of it, but I don't carry it like a burden-I carry it like a filter. Before posting, I ask myself: Is this honest? Is this harmless? Does it still feel like me? I don't want to be preachy. If people feel seen, lighter, or less alone after watching something I've made, that's the responsibility that matters to me.

10. What does the next phase of your career look like?

I'd like a balance of both-acting and digital storytelling. I want to explore different spaces within storytelling and filmmaking.

11. Has your definition of success changed since your early days as a content creator?

Earlier, success was numeric-views, followers, virality. Now it's different. Success is posting something honest, making people feel seen, and sleeping peacefully knowing I didn't force myself into a version I don't believe in. Growth and brands still matter, but they don't define the win alone. For me, success today is sustainability-being able to keep creating, evolving, and enjoying the process without losing the voice that brought people in.
