A Delhi court has granted bail to alleged conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar in a money laundering case, yet Chandrasekhar is expected to remain in jail. Chandrasekhar faces 31 separate criminal cases and still has several matters under trial. However, five cases are yet to conclude, which reportedly prevents Chandrasekhar from walking free despite the fresh bail order.

Sukesh Chandrasekhar bail in money laundering case

The latest bail order was passed by the Rouse Avenue court in the national capital. The decision came on 07 April 2026, around 16:42 IST. The court directed Chandrasekhar to furnish a personal bond of Rs 5 lakh and provide sureties of the same value.

While granting bail, the court reportedly observed that prolonged detention beyond a reasonable period goes against the fundamental right to personal liberty and a speedy trial. The order held that continued incarceration in such circumstances would not align with constitutional protections available to an accused.

The Enforcement Directorate’s money laundering case against Chandrasekhar falls under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. Officials state that this matter is linked to a broader probe into alleged financial wrongdoing and efforts to influence the allocation of a political party’s election symbol over several years.

Investigating agencies have claimed that the PMLA proceedings reveal a wider pattern of suspected fraudulent activity connected to Chandrasekhar. With multiple cases at different stages and only some bail orders in place, Chandrasekhar remains under judicial custody while the remaining five cases continue through the courts.
