Bengal CM Oath Ceremony: Suvendu Adhikari Sworn In As Bengal's First BJP Chief Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday congratulated Suvendu Adhikari and the newly sworn-in BJP government as the leader officially became West Bengal's first-ever BJP Chief Minister.

Suvendu Adhikari Family: Is Bengal's New CM Suvendu Married?

Just days ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Suvendu Adhikari's close aide and personal assistant Chandranath Rath was reportedly shot dead on May 6 in what eyewitnesses described as a calculated and professionally executed attack amid the state's post-poll violence, according to ABP.

The chilling incident has once again put the spotlight on a series of mysterious deaths linked to people once considered close to Adhikari. As reported by WIO News, former aide and political secretary Pradip Jha was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Kolkata's Strand Road in 2013. Years later, in 2018, Subhabrata Chakraborty - a State Armed Police personnel attached to Adhikari's security team for over seven years - was discovered with a gunshot wound inside a police barrack in Kanthi, Purba Medinipur. In 2021, Pulak Lahiri, known in political circles as one of Adhikari's trusted aides and former drivers, also died under mysterious circumstances.

Coming from one of East Midnapore's most influential political families, Adhikari's father, Sisir Adhikari, served both in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly and the Lok Sabha, while his brother Dibyendu Adhikari was earlier associated with AITC before switching to the BJP in 2024. Suvendu himself began his political career with the Congress during the 1995 municipal polls before joining the TMC in 1998 alongside his father.

As public curiosity around his private life grows, Adhikari has openly stated that he is unmarried. In a 2021 interview with India TV, he said, "I am unmarried, and the best part about celibacy is that I have a lot of time for work and no personal obligations." He further connected that choice to his decades-long political commitment, adding that he entered student politics through NSU in 1987 and has remained devoted to public life ever since.
