World Music Day: ‘Music Is The Sound Of Feelings’, Says Singer Amitanshu Kumar
June 21 - As the world tunes in for World Music Day, Mumbai-based singer-songwriter Amitanshu Kumar has a simple message: music isn't just entertainment, it's connection.

Known for originals like Deewana, Safar, Doobe Hain Hum, Hypnotize and Kami, Amitanshu blends storytelling with contemporary sound. An MIT Manipal Electrical Engineering grad turned filmmaker, visual artist and performer, he's spent 7+ years on Mumbai's live circuit - from weddings and clubs to corporates and cultural venues. His repertoire? Bollywood, Retro, Sufi, Semi-Classical, Indie and English.
For Amitanshu, World Music Day hits close to home. His most vivid memory isn't from a stage, but a classroom. "One memory that stands out is when I created and presented a PowerPoint on World Music Day during my college years. Along with the presentation, I gave a speech about the significance of music and how it connects people across cultures and emotions. The response was wonderful," he recalls.
That moment made him see music as more than notes. "It's a powerful form of expression and communication," he says.
His one tip for beginners is disarmingly simple. "Sing whenever you can and explore different genres without worrying whether you're good at them yet. Growth comes through consistent practice and experimentation."
He's heard the "this doesn't suit your voice" line too. His response: work on it. "Train your voice patiently. Never force or strain high notes. The notes that feel difficult today may become comfortable tomorrow if you approach them with consistency, patience, and proper technique."
Live shows taught him his biggest lesson. "If you've practiced well, the audience can feel it. If you've skipped preparation, that shows too." But he's not afraid of mistakes. "They're a natural part of live performance. Sometimes a mistake can become an opportunity to create something unique. Great performers turn unexpected situations into memorable moments."
Music in 3 words, "Expression - Music is about expressing what you feel from within. Connection - Music connects people irrespective of language, age, culture, or background. Feeling - Music has the power to comfort, inspire, heal," he explains. His own definition: "For me, music is the Sound of Feelings."
With a filmmaker's eye, he'd pick cinema. "Whether through music, films, or visual art, I've always been drawn to creating experiences that evoke emotions and tell meaningful stories. Storytelling has always been at the heart of what I do."
What's next. "Success isn't just about reaching a destination - it's about staying authentic, evolving as an artist, and continuing to create music that resonates," he says. With new songs, films and creative projects in the pipeline, Amitanshu is keeping the beat going.
"To everyone who has supported my journey so far, thank you. Stay tuned - there's much more to come." This World Music Day, his advice is clear: press play, sing loud, and let the feelings flow.
