Drama King : Karan Johar
By: Nikita C Fernandes
He isn't satisfying playing one role. He's the pro of multi-tasking. Jack of all trades, master of all of them. Writer, actor, creative director, costume designer, producer, director, television chat show host - you name it, he does it. His much waited movie Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna is the talk of the town. Three mega films old, Karan Johar's fame and fortune grows by the day. Karan is the new age bollywood director reinventing his movies with novel themes. This witty , intelligent Geminine is a self confessed movie buff who literally ate, drank and slept movies when he was a child. His thirst for movies was quenched by stepping into the field of bollywood. Having provided bollywood cinema a facelift , bollywood movies and Karan Johar are synonymous. Known for his fixation for the letter 'K', all movies written by Karan Johar start with 'K' and consist of four words due to numerological reasons. He is also known to cast Shahrukh, Rani Mukherji and Kajol for all his movies.
Karan is the son of the late Yash Johar, a renowned Hindi film producer who spearheaded Dharma Productions. Karan studied at the Greenlawns High School and attended H.R College in Mumbai. He has also received a Master's degree in French. Chubby and plump as a child, Karan was a great orator in school winning a lot of prizes in debates. His inherent talent of public speaking has made him host several award functions all over the world as he renders the best of language and diction through his fantastic communication skills.
Karan Johar was first noticed in the film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge playing a role of Shahrukh's friend in the movie. He has been closely associated with Yashraj productions. He also worked as a costume designer for Shahrukh Khan in films like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Dil To Pagal Hai, Duplicate, Main Hoon Na and Veer Zaara. He has also been the writer and host of Koffee with Karan which did extremely well on television . His amazing talent of lending wit and humor to the show made audiences love to wait and watch their favourite stars being interviewed by him.
His movies Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham , Kal Ho Na Ho are generally classified as over-emotional melodramas making it loved by audiences around the world. The glorification of Indian traditions, rituals, ways of life, values and mannerisms are highlighted in his movies. He owes inspiration from the movies of Yash Johar characterized by the different faces of love and romance. Elaborate sets, glamour, voluminous finery, expensive clothing and materialistic luxuries characterize the elements of his movies. The resolution of his movies ends with a happy ending.
Expectations peak this August with the release of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, a film based on complicated love relationships which have precarious resolutions. This film boasts of an ensemble cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Preity Zinta, Rani Mukherji, Abhishek Bachchan, Arjun Rampal and John Abraham. With great promise and tremendous potential of this young director, we can't wait to watch KANK on 11th August .
