Dhananjay Atre Biography

Dhananjay Atre (born Karthik Atre), is an Indian film actor who works predominantly in Kannada Cinema. Dhananjay started with still modeling in the year 2000 and featured in ad campaigns for brands such as Kingfisher Derby & Raymonds. He later took up acting in tele-serials and movies.

Acting Career

In 2007, Dhananjay Atre managed to secure a small role in the film Buddhivanta, starring Upendra. This was his first moment before the camera. Co-incidently, he had the opportunity to meet and get to know noted producer Rockline Venkatesh. This lead to secure small, character roles in films such as Bombaat (2008), Devru (2009) & Yodha (2009), all from Rockline Productions.

In 2009, Dhananjay started to attend auditions for Kannada tele-serials and played a lead role in the serial ‘Parineeta’ which starred noted actress B. Jayashree and Late minister M.P Prakash. The serial was supposed to be telecast in the Zee-Kannada channel. It however did not take off and was shelved before being telecast.

In 2010, Dhananjay took up an antagonist role in the serial ‘Munjaavu’ telecast in E.TV-Kannada (now Colors) for 40 episodes. He also managed to secure the role of a police officer in AMR Ramesh’s ‘Veerappan’s Attahasa’ (2011). This was followed by a lead role in the E.TV serial ‘Chitralekha’ (2011-12) for close to 400 episodes. It was here, he says, he got the opportunity to improve himself as an actor. On completing his stint in the serial, he was offered a role by noted serial director ‘Aroor Jagadeesh’ for the serial ‘Ashwini Nakshatra’, which he however declined, as he was more interested in Cinema. Despite efforts and attending various auditions, nothing materialized on the movie front.

Around this time, Dhananjay got the opportunity to further his business interests into investments and saw growth in that line of work. He spent the next 5 years focusing on his business, though the urge to act never left him.

In the end of the year 2017, Dhananjay and his wife Gowrie together made a Kannada cinema story, which he planned to produce and act in as the lead. A home banner ‘DJ Entertainments’ was created. The subject was of a Thriller Genre and they named it ‘KARSHANAM’.  Sharavana, who had directed the tele-serial ‘Mahabharata’ and had worked as an associate to noted directors such as V. Ravichandran, P. Vasu and Saiprakash was roped in to direct the film, under the camera work of Mohan M. Magudeshwaran (of Karva and Buckasura fame). The film released in the November 2018.
