20th Zurich Film Festival To Award Kate Winslet 'Golden Icon Award'

The upcoming 20th Zurich Film Festival is planning to award Kate Winslet the 'Golden Icon Award' and feature her latest 2023 film 'Lee'. The festival itself will run from October 3rd, 2024 till October 13th, 2024. Kate Winslet plans to only attend the event on October 7th, in order to promote the film.

The 'Golden Icon Award' is described as a coveted accolade that is presented to personalities whose acting has left a lasting mark on cinema as a whole. The award first started being given out from 2008 onwards, with the first person to receive the award being Sylvester Stallone. Since then, numerous actors have received the award. The list includes Morgan Freeman, Michael Douglas, Sean Penn, Richard Gere, Hugh Jackman, Diane Keaton, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Hugh Grant, Glen Close, Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett, Juliette Binoche, Sharon Stone, Sir Ben Kingsley, Jessica Chastain, and now Kate Winslet for the 20th edition of the film festival.

Most people will recognize Kate Winslet from the 1997 movie 'Titanic' where she plays the role of the female protagonist and Leonardo DiCaprio's love interest, Rose DeWitt Bukater. Her breakout role in the international scene, though, was from 'Heavenly Creatures' in 1994. Since then, she's also worked on several movies that range from both low budget to very high budget, like 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', 'Revolutionary Road', 'Flushed Away', 'Blackbird' and even 'Avatar: The Way of Water'.

The artistic director at the Zurich Film Festival, Christian Jungen, had this to say about Kate Winslet. "Kate Winslet is a true icon of cinema and shines through her versatility in big studio blockbusters as well as small indie productions. Her multifaceted choice of roles and her long Hollywood career make her a favorite with audiences of multiple generations."
