Matt Damon Shares Thoughts On Possible 1998 Movie 'Rounders' Sequel

Matt Damon recently appeared on the Rich Eisen show in order to promote Apple's show 'The Instigators' where he plays a major role. In the interview, he talked about more than just the show, though, as the interviewer asked him whether there were any sequels in store for the future that he is working on.
Damon responded that 'The Accountant 2' is a movie that is already in the works by Actors Equity and will star Ben Affleck, but as for a movie that he himself starred in, he stated that he would like to do a sequel for the movie 'Rounders', a 1998 film revolving around the underground poker scene of the time.
For context, the plot of 'Rounders' focused on a law student and gifted poker player, Mike McDermott who was played by Matt Damon. McDermott got caught up in a series of bad luck and debt which cost him many things such as his relationship and time to study, but he always had a passion for poker and dreamed of playing in the world series at Las Vegas. The entire film is the story about how he's faced with the decision of choosing between a normal life and his passion towards poker.
When the film first released, it was met with mixed reviews, but after a couple years it found a cult following amongst those who were deep in the poker scene.
Matt Damon talked about how he met up with Edward Norton, his co-star in the original movie, and they both expressed a wish to do a sequel. The poker scene has changed considerably in the past quarter century, and which could add a lot of fresh ideas to the base of the original film. The only issue seems to be relating to rights and who would be making the most money out of the film. Matt Damon said that "We've got to figure out a way to make a deal that makes sense for everybody, particularly the people who are going to make the movie because at Artists Equity, that's who we care about, are the cast and crew. We're trying to figure that out because I think we'd all like to do that."
