Ranma 1 2 - Netflix Anime Remake Trailer

The Official Netflix YouTube channel just recently dropped a bombshell of a trailer in the form of a 'Ranma 1/2' remake that will be streaming on the platform sometime next to next month. Readers interested can watch the trailer below.

For those that have been into the anime scene since the 1980s, or those that would love to see a remake of one of the classics of comedy in anime, here are some of the things you should know about this upcoming anime.

Plot Details Of The Classic Anime 'Ranma 1/2'

Netflix summarizes the show as follows, "Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo's parents have arranged for them to get married. However, there's a problem: whenever Ranma is splashed with cold water, he turns into a girl! The stage is set for a slapstick martial arts rom-com filled with quirky characters!"

As the description suggests, Ranma will follow the protagonist, Ranma Saotome, who seems to be able to shift their gender when exposed to cold water or warm water. This happens to the protagonist due to a curse and a lot of the series revolves around Ranma trying to remove this curse while also balancing their duties to the martial arts dojo and a non-consensual betrothal between them and another Dojo owner's daughter, Akane Tendo.

Cast And Crew Behind The Comedy Anime 'Ranma 1/2'

With the manga originally written and illustrated by Rumiko Takahashi, the series will be directed by Konosuke Uda and produced at Studio MAPPA alongside series composer Kimiko Ueno and character designer Hiromi Taniguchi. The theme song of the show is sung by Japanese artist 'ano'.

The voice over cast behind the show has plenty of talent, but the main cast has not changed much since the original anime release in the 1980s as both versions of Ranma will be voiced by returning actors Kappei Yamaguchi and Megumi Hayashibara, and Akane being voiced by Noriko Hidaka. Other voice actors who are part of the cast list include Minami Takayama, Kikuko Inoue, Akio Otsuka, Koichi Yamadera, Rei Sakuma, and more.

When And Where Can I Watch 'Ranma 1/2'?

The remake will be available to watch exclusively on Netflix from October 5th, 2024 onwards.
