Shoshimin: How to Become Ordinary - Episode 2 Overview - The Cocoa Mystery

The second episode of 'Soushimin: How To Become Ordinary' just got released on Crunchyroll. While the episode itself had a very simple plot, it also gave us fans quite a bit of context about the main character, Jougorou Kobato. Here is an overview of the episode.
Warning: The following content may contain spoilers for the episode.
Picking Up From Episode 1's Cliffhanger
Episode two seems to start quite a few days after the events of episode one, where Yuki Osanai, Jougorou's friend, had her bike stolen and cake destroyed. She's seen in the shopping district, with a gloomy demeanor. After talking with her for a bit, Jougorou finds out that she wasn't upset about the incident, but rather what came after. Her bike was spotted in a crime scene and she got an earful for being associated with it.
That's unfortunately where that storyline ends though, as Kengo, Jougorou's friend from middle school, invites him and Yuki over.
Mystery Of The Really Tasty Hot Cocoa And The Clean Sink
When Jougorou and Yuki arrive, Kengo greets them, invites them in, and offers them some hot cocoa. They also share some cake with one another, and make small talk, after which Yuki goes to the bathroom.
Kengo takes this opportunity to prod Jougorou a little, asking him what changed between middle school and high school. He brings up how Jougorou was in the past, described as extremely smart, but also arrogant, condescending, and overconfident. This gives us as fans much more context to why Kengo behaves so abrasively with Jougorou.
After a short exchange where Jougorou manages to weasel his way out of answering personal questions, he goes to the kitchen where he meets Kengo's sister. It is here where the mystery begins.
This article won't discuss the mystery as it is quite fun to watch it happen in the episode and is actually something that fans can solve as they watch it. The answer to the mystery is actually hiding in plain sight, but it takes a perceptive and deductive viewer to solve it.
Final Thoughts
There seems to be a good balance between exploring character backstories and solving fun mysteries in each episode. Every minute makes the viewer more curious about who these people are, and why they're so smart. At the same time, the show tests the intelligence of the viewer as well, should they choose to participate in the investigation. All in all, it is a very good watch.
