'Sonic The Hedgehog 3' Trailer, Release Date, Cast, And More

For those who've been part of the video game scene in any capacity, you may or may not have heard the name 'Sonic' at least once. The blue blur, the mascot of Sega and one of the many icons of retro gaming, 'Sonic The Hedgehog' has recently been dipping his toes into the film industry and his past two films have done surprisingly well considering that video-game based films have a reputation of being quite bad.

The film franchise is doing so well that just recently, the Official Paramount Pictures YouTube channel just recently uploaded a trailer for the third film in the franchise, titled 'Sonic The Hedgehog 3'. The trailer can be watched below.

For those that are a big fan of the 'Sonic The Hedgehog' franchise, or those that are curious as to what this semi-animated film is all about, here are some of the things you should know.

Plot Details Of The Semi-Animated Movie 'Sonic The Hedgehog 3'

The movie will take place after the drawn out battle between Sonic and his friends against Dr. Robotnik. Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles are considered heroes by the people after the events of the second movie, and are often relied upon during times of crisis.

One such moment of crisis arrives when an experiment goes horribly wrong, leading to another speedster hedgehog by the name of 'Shadow' going rogue and causing havoc in the city. While Sonic and his friends try to fight him, they quickly realize that they are outmatched as the hedgehog is genetically modified to be better than Sonic in every way.

This causes them to form an unlikely alliance with Dr. Robotnik to put this new threat to rest once and for all.

Cast And Crew Behind 'Sonic The Hedgehog 3'

A lot of the cast and crew will be returning from the previous Sonic movies, such as director Jeff Fowler alongside writers Pat Casey, Josh Miller and John Whittington. Ben Schwartz, Colleen O'Shaughnessey, and Idris Elba make a return to voice Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles respectively, with Jim Carrey again playing his iconic role of Dr. Robotnik.

A new notable addition to the cast includes Keanu Reeves voicing the new antagonist, 'Shadow The Hedgehog'. In the original games and media, Shadow is shown to be extremely edgy and brooding, but Keanu has quite the history playing such characters so it seems he was a good choice for this role.

The movie 'Sonic The Hedgehog 3' will be available in theatres from December 20th, 2024 onwards.
