Top 3 Highest Grossing Hollywood Films Of This Weekend, July 19th - 21st

The weekend has come and gone, and with it have come more numbers for how movies have grossed in ticket sales so far. There were not many new movie releases for this weekend, but the ones that did release managed to do really well. Some of the movies listed here will be repeats from last weekend, which also shows just how well received they've been by audiences worldwide. Here is the Top 3 list of box office hits for this weekend, according to gross ticket sales.
Twisters - $81,251,415
The new kid on the block, 'Twisters' has done really well in international theatres, having grossed roughly $81,000,000 dollars on just the opening weekend alone. These are impressive figures for a movie whose premise mostly revolves around weather phenomena in the south central region of the United States.
The movie doesn't mention this but it is, in fact, a remake of the 1996 film 'Twister' which had a very similar concept and execution. Both movies put the majority of their focus on tornadoes in Oklahoma, with a female protagonist that has a sixth sense for tornadoes. The new movie even references the old by returning items like 'Dorothy', a research device that could provide early warning signs of tornadoes.
Despicable Me 4 - $24,437,025
While this animated movie had a strong start during its opening weekend, 'Despicable Me 4' has finally started losing momentum in gross sales, having only earned $24,437,025 this weekend, around a quarter of what the new movie 'Twisters' earned. It's opening weekend was also not quite as impressive as that of 'Twisters', having only made $75,009,210 on its opening weekend on July 3rd.
The movie currently sits at a total gross ticket sales worth $260,097,160.
Inside Out 2 - $12,828,702
Another one of the highest performing movies of this month and last month, 'Inside Out 2's numbers have finally started going down since its theatrical release six weeks ago, with it having earned only $12,828,702 in this weekend. The movie had one of the best opening weekends of the year so far, earning $154,201,673 in ticket sales the weekend after June 14th.
The movie, after having been in theatres for six weeks, has managed to gross a total of $596,404,306 in ticket sales.
A special mention should also be given to the movie Bad Newz, which had the eighth highest gross ticket sales on this weekend according to Box Office Mojo, having earned around $1,069,000 despite being played in less than 500 theatres.
