Top 3 Highest Grossing Hollywood Films Of This Weekend, July 26th - 28th

The weekend has passed by and with it have come both a set of new movies and the box office kings of the past week, all competing to have the best weekend ticket sales. While most of the top grossing movies are the same ones as those that came before, there is one movie that managed to stand out due to excellent publicity, and has managed to dethrone many of the highest grossing movies of the past weeks in just its opening weekend. Here is the Top 3 list of box office hits for this weekend, according to gross ticket sales.
Deadpool & Wolverine - $205,000,000
It comes as no surprise that the new Marvel movie 'Deadpool & Wolverine' is such a box office hit after all the effort that went into marketing it. The concept itself would have earned the top spot during its opening weekend, but with the heavy advertising by Marvel, Disney, and all its wonderful cast, the opening weekend has seen great success, earning around $205,000,000.
This amount of gross ticket sales has already let it beat 'Inside Out 2's opening weekend numbers, and put it as the 6th highest grossing film of 2024, just being beaten out by Kung Fu Panda 4. 'Deadpool & Wolverine' theatrical release has just started, though, which means that the movie may reach even greater numbers as the weeks go by.
Twisters - $35,300,000
Despite having just come out last week and being advertised for a niche audience, the natural disaster focused film 'Twisters' seems to be doing pretty well in the box office, having earned $35,300,000 in gross ticket sales this weekend. The total gross sales it has earned over the past week has reached all the way up to around $154,931,140, showing that movie adaptations of late 90s films still have a strong presence in current media.
Despicable Me 4 - $14,200,000
Finally losing steam after a very strong start, 'Despicable Me 4' is slowly dropping in ticket sales as the weeks go by, earning only $14,200,000 this past weekend. While this still puts it as having the third-most ticket sales in this past weekend, it doesn't compare to its total gross sales of $290,972,260 that it earned since its release on July 3rd, 2024.
If the current trend continues, it seems the box office kings of this 2024, those being 'Inside Out 2', 'Dune 2', and 'Despicable Me 4' may start seeing some real competition.
