While these movies seem to be doing well at the box office, according to statistics by Box Office Mojo, animated sequel films like 'Despicable Me 4' and 'Inside Out 2' are still doing better. Despicable Me 4 - $44,650,000

It is no surprise that 'Despicable Me 4' is still reigning the charts as the top grossing film of the past couple weekends, earning roughly $44,650,000 on this weekend. The movie's opening day, which was on July 3rd, 2024, had seen it earn roughly $77,009,210 and it is still going strong. Currently, the movie's total gross earned sits at $211,102,340.

The movie features returning characters from the franchise, Gru and his adopted kids, who welcome a new member to the family Gru Jr. The film follows the shenanigans Gru Jr. gets up to as the rest of the family has to fend off a supervillain duo, Maxime Le Mal and his girlfriend, Valentina.

Longlegs - $22,600,000

The biggest surprise this opening weekend was the success of the horror movie 'Longlegs' which stars and is produced by Nicholas Cage. This opening weekend, which also saw the release of the film, it earned $22,600,000, beating out tough competition like another newly released film, 'Fly Me To The Moon'.

The movie follows an FBI agent in pursuit of a serial killer. During her investigation, she learns that the killer has ties to the occult and tries to stop him before the unthinkable happens.

'Inside Out 2' is still doing well in theatres despite releasing an entire month back, earning $20,748,000 during this weekend. On its release day, June 14th, 2024, it earned $154,201,673, making it the movie with the highest opening day earnings in this list. It also currently sits at a total gross sales worth $572,592,077, making it again the movie with the highest total gross sales on this list.

The movie follows the protagonist of the last film, Riley, growing up and becoming an adolescent. As she grows older, her old emotions have to learn to adapt, else they may be replaced by new emotions.

A Quiet Place: Day One - $11,800,033

'A Quiet Place: Day One' is the second of the two horror movies on this list, earning a total of $11,800,033 during this weekend. On its opening day last month, June 28th, 2024, the movie earned $52,202,495, and has managed to reach total gross sales worth $116,229,000.

The film is the sequel to the original film, 'A Quiet Place' with the plot focusing on the early days of the alien invasion. The protagonist of this film, Sam, must learn to survive and navigate the streets of New York while being hunted by beings with ultra-sensitive hearing.

Fly Me To The Moon - $10,000,000

The last film on the list, while not having earned as much as its peers and competitors, still lies at a respectable $10,000,000 for its opening weekend.

'Fly Me To The Moon' follows the fictional stories of the NASA director of the Apollo 11 mission, a marketing specialist, and a budding romance between the two. While the film is a comedy-romance with a fictional story, it still attempts to weave in some real facts about the mission to the moon.
