Vince Vaughn Shows Willingness To Do More R-Rated Comedies On 'Hot Ones'

Vince Vaughn R-Rated Comedies In Hollywood

Vince Vaughn is a veteran of the Hollywood industry, having been around for numerous decades and played a variety of roles. But, like all actors, he needed a lucky break before he became as successful as he is today. That lucky break came in the form of the hard R-rated 1996 comedy film 'Swingers'. The actor also worked on a bunch of other similar R-rated comedies afterwards like 'Wedding Crashers' and 'Old School'. Unfortunately, though, it seems that R-rated comedies are few and far between in the Hollywood scene.

Vaughn recently did an interview with Sean Evans at 'Hot Ones' where he was promoting his new show on Apple TV called 'Bad Monkey'.

While parts of the interview did focus on the upcoming show, most of the interview focused on Vaughn's life and Hollywood history. Eventually, Sean Evans asked Vaughn as to why Hollywood seems hesitant to create more R-rated comedies, to which Vince Vaughn said that the executives at Hollywood often overthink the process of making a movie.

He said, "you get these rules, if you did geometry, and you said 87 degrees was a right angle, then all your answers are messed up, instead of 90 degrees." He further elaborated that movies in the Hollywood industry had to follow a formula before being proposed to an executive, as movies without formulas were too risky. Things like an established IP are now mandatory.

Vaughn then talked about how back in his day, an IP was simply a relatable experience, like going back to college, or falling out of love. He talked about how things were simpler, less restrictive, and how people were willing to take risks to make and film their movies. He even talked about how the movie 'Swingers' once had police visit their filming location due to some permit issues, but despite that, they managed to film it all.

He ended his response by saying that while film executives are afraid of being fired, eventually audiences will demand movies that are unique and risky. Hopefully, when that time comes, we can once again see Vince Vaughn showing off his talent in more bold and unusual films.
