Theron given Vanguard Award

South African actress Charlize Theron made the gay community gay and glaad when she won the Vangaurd award at this years GLAAD (Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation(s)) Awards. Charlize has long been a supporter of gay rights and issues. She won her an Oscar playing a gay serial killer in Monster in '03. While presenting her the Vanguard Award, they said that she was given the award because of her visibility and understanding in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community." In her support to and for the gay and lesbian community, her point of view was that she being a straight was privileged to enjoy the freedom that comes along with it. It was in deed sad that one would be deprived of his basic right on the basis of his sexual inclinations was what she had said about her opinion on the issue. Her support of the issue is so strong that she has put off her own marrige until gays and lesbians can have legal marriges.

Among the winners of the nights ceremony were other actors playing alternative sexual lifestyle roles like Felicity Huffmans in Transamerica (for which she won an Oscar this year) and gay sitcom Will and Grace.
