Washington (ANI): Action specialist Andrzej Bartkowiak has been signed on by producer Ashok Amritraj"s Hyde Park Entertainment and Capcom to direct "Street Fighter", a live-action feature film based on the popular videogame. The three-time Academy Award nominated director will now start work in the action flick early next year. Producers on the movie will be Ashok Amritraj and senior exec Patrick Aiello, with Capcom on board as executive producer.

The movie will be the Campcom"s second attempt to turn the popular videogame into a successful film franchise after 1994's "Street Fighter," which starred Jean-Claude Van Damme. That movie made a mere 33 million dollars in the box office. The new version of the movie, which focuses on female fighter Chun Li and her journey for justice, will be distributed by Fox. The script for the new movie has been penned by Justin Marks, reports Variety.
