John Singleton to direct Tulia

Director John Singleton will helm Liongate's film Tulia, that stars Oscar winner Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton.

The flick is a legal drama that is based on Nate Blakeslee book 'Tulia: Race, Cocaine, and Corruption in a Small Texas Town'. The plot revolves around a lawyer's attempt to unearth a scandal behind a string of drug convictions that puts 10 pct of black population in the town behind bars, reports Variety. The arrests are dismissed as racial profiling and the undercover officer, who conducted the busts, is charged for perjury.

The flick is produced by Mike Tollin, Berry and manager Vince Cirrincione, Sharla Sumpter and Singleton's manager Paul Hall.
