Oscar winner Susan Sarandon is the latest to join the cast of 'The Lovely Bones' that already has Rachel Weisz and Ryan Gosling. The film, which will be directed by Peter Jackson, is a big screen adaptation of Alice Sebold's best-seller by the same name, reports Variety.

The film is the story of a girl, Susie Salmon, who is brutally raped and murdered. But after death, she continues to watch her family from heaven. Salmon, who is the narrator in the story, sees that her family is grieving her loss, while her slayer succeeds in covering up the crime and starts preparing for his next murder.

Gosling and Weisz will play the girl's parents with Stanley Tucci as the killer. Jackson is penning the screenplay for the film with Philippa Boyens and Fran Walsh. The film will be shot in Pennsylvania and New Zealand from October this year.
