Washington (ANI): American actor Brad Renfro passed away suddenly on Tuesday Jan 15, at the age of 25. Renfro was spending the night with some friends at a Los Angeles apartment, according to Craig Harvey, chief investigator for the Los Angeles county coroner.

He was heard snoring during the night, but on Tuesday Jan 15 morning, his friends found that the star had stopped breathing. They called the paramedics, who declared his death to have occurred at about 9 a.m. The cause of his death is still not known, and an autopsy could take place as early as Wednesday Jan 16. The one cause that most are thinking about is that he could have passed away because of drugs.

"Drug overdose is a possibility considering his history, but right now all we have is the history of his drinking the previous night," People magazine quoted Harvey, as saying. "All that we have is that he was last known to be alive during the morning hours and he was snoring," he added. Brad"s life was often overshadowed by reports of drug abuse and legal troubles. However, Renfro's more recent behaviour, suggested that the Knoxville, Tennessee, native was working hard to get his life back on track.

A month after agreeing to admit himself into a drug-diversion program in March 2006 in order to avoid jail time for an attempted heroin-possession charge, he told reporters that he had 30 days of hard-won sobriety and was "tired of paying the consequences" for his destructive behaviour. The actor had recently wrapped shooting on the feature adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis' 1995 novel The Informers.

"Brad was an exceptionally talented young actor and our time spent with him was thoroughly enjoyable," Marco Weber, president of the film's production company Senator Entertainment, said in a statement.
